Just noticed the cars were staged in "reverse chronological order" for the photo;

From the right:

Pennington's black '69
Orange '68
'67
'66
'65
and then a silver '69
and Pennington's orange '69

NHTSA Investigating Catastrophic Engine Failures in 2021 Ford Broncos

Quote:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into a potential issue with the valvetrain in V-6-equipped 2021 Ford Broncos that could lead to catastrophic engine failure at highway speeds, according to a public filing published this week.

The filing, which was first reported on by the Wall Street Journal, states that "[i]n a June 7, 2022 meeting with Ford, [the Office of Defects Investigation] learned this alleged loss of motor power is a result of catastrophic engine failures due to the engine valves failing. Ford identified the root cause as the valve 'keepers' not holding the retainer in place allowing the valve spring to detach from the valve resulting in interference between the valve and piston. This interference can cause an engine lockup."

AND the stock "appearing" tires are also FAR from what came on these originally. Between them being purpose built drag race tires and a track prep that will pull your shoes off, that is how these cars pull front wheels and run in the 9's.

You are wrong, take a good up close look at them, yes they are worn out, but they are either the kelsey Goodyears or the Coker firestones. The Pennington group has always ran the firestones, I hear. They are a little softer on a durometer gauge.

If he had watched the video he would have seen this !!!

The Firestones are shaved to the warning bars, then they do a burnout with 5-6lbs in the tire till the tread pattern is gone.
If you watch the launch when they leave, neither car even 'squeals" a tire. The Pennington group know their Vette stuff. Even running "pure stock", their L88 has been the car to beat for years, the wife drives...
