Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Just curious. Don Yenko was a shrewd businessman, so why order a COPO for racing? He had been swaping motors for years, and it would make better sense to take an El Strippo Chevelle and swap out the parts to convert it to racing trim. Why pay for parts that were going to come off the car anyway? There was no profit motive to load up a car that wasn't going to get titled. Isn't that why the ZL1's had stock tires and hubcaps? If it was raced by Yenko, wouldn't the most valuable documentation be pics of him with the car? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Mike S. owned the car since 72......he bought it from YENKO.....I have seen all the documentations to the car and was told the exact story of how it came to be as i explained....Mike is a hard guy sometimes to understand when he gets excited so my listening skills arent the greatest.......I spoke with him last night to refresh my memory...the problem you all are having with the window sticker is where it was delivered and the engine......thinking its all fake...no its not......mike is the first title holder...remember Yenko never titled the car as it was a RACE car and he was a dealer...they built the 3 in question as racers not to be sold....2 were destroyed and the third, that Mike purchased from Yenko is the only survivor of the 3 that had the L88's installed by YENKO at SUN CHEVY...thats where the detinations get all confused...to hear Mike tell the story instead of coming from me would be a whole lot better except he is of the old school and does NOT have a pc....I wish he did .....Im not here to argue or cause a fight amongst you GhUrus of the faith......Im only trying to clear up the mystery behind the L88 Yenko...it is a great story and very true....as far as the L71 tripower.....well that is a VETTE engine and here is another aguement that will start up...simply put......Yenko was able to order such an engine in that Chevelle...why.....because he wanted that engine for anothercar...maybe because it was cheaper that way..why buy a vette when the Chevelle is a whole lot cheaper...eyebrows are now raising..it is weird but very true....what did that car sell for.....over 300k...and it was well researched before that kind of money was let out...unfortunately mike sold the car without us and......well we didnt get any commission...I can ask Mike if he wants his phone published but that may have to be done privately and to only one..... [/ QUOTE ] I just found a new way to make myself a bunch of money.... I'm going start selling these mail-order https://www.yenko.net/attachments/141303-9c_1_b.jpg.. I've already put Charley down for 2 pair. ... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif I'm usually not one to look for a head bumping contest either but it sounds to me that this "hard to understand" Mike guy is as full of S-H-I-T as the guy who insists (till the bitter end) that Mike's "story" on this Chevelle is Gospel... Can ANYONE give credibilty to there being "3" L88 Yenko Chevelles? Joe? BKH? Clarys? Anyone?? Or is this privilaged information that only Mike, Blownaway, and Don Yenko know about? The longer this drags out the deeper it seems to get. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif I know Yenko did have his name on a few Drag cars.. Ed Hendricks Camaro.. a few Dick Harrell machines.. etc.. but the "3" L88 Chevelles???? I guess they really SUCKED as I never heard A THING about them until this magic one popped up on Ebay.. Must have been a well kept secret all these years? Its kind of funny how this one slipped past alot of the now-experts that have been in the Yenko loop for a long long time.. some since day 1.. ? I'm taking orders on the Yenko waist-deeps. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif btw.. if this Chevelle is indeed a COPO.. It came from the factory with an iron head L72 ... There ain't no way in hell it was shipped out the door with an alum. head L71.. PERIOD!! If Don Yenko wanted an L71 engine, he'd had one shipped in a crate.. The man didn't have to order a CAR to get a specific engine.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif |

Interesting...then the email I got back during the Ebay auction was from a broker, or his brother, or...?
[ QUOTE ] From: Anthony Scinto Date: Monday, October 04, 2004 8:13 AM RE: Ebay auction 2491802910 Fist would would like to explain the position of AAEML. AAEML is an advertising company that creates ebay auction ads for clients. Our clients either have their own ebay account or we create one for them "That is why yenkocopo has a zero rating". We do this so all our clients build their identity, not ours and the fact most of our clients have several cars to sell. We believe that what our clients tell us they have to sell, they actually have. I have spoke to people from Yenko and Copo and neither can say for sure that this is not what our clients say that is. If either Yenko or Copo could tell me 100% that this car is a fraud, we would of pulled the auction, but being under contract with our clients we had no choice but to run this auction to the end. Besides nobody would buy a car like this off of ebay or anywhere else with out an inspection of the vehicle. Tony AAEML [/ QUOTE ] Of more interest is the fact that during the auction the seller (Mike, or Tony, or AAEML, or whoever it was) was telling people that both my father and Warren knew of the car and they believed it was real, which was totally untrue...dad knew nothing of the car other than the Hemmings ad, and Warren knew nothing of the car either (and he was in charge of the Hi-perf/Racing department at Yenko back in the day). Neither believed the part about Sun or the McMurray address, or why there were repop emblems on the car... Anyway, after the auction, the seller called dad about 1/2 dozen times about the car, wondering why we dis-believed the story surrounding it...btw, the part about finding the window sticker laminated, and behind the rear seat was a nice touch! Anyway, as I told "Tony", my thoughts were the car was probably indeed a COPO, from a dealer other than Yenko (being black I guessed Scuncio), and somewhere along the line one of it's owner's was told that only Yenko got 427 Chevelles so on went the paint/stripes/emblems to help justify it's 427 origins... Believe me, being a Chevelle guy I was hoping and praying it was the real deal... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif |

No, you told us what was true about the car in a completely biased and pompous way. If you think that you gave the unbiased "facts" for all to evaluate you are a fool. Only a true idiot strongly supports facts that he cannot verify. |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Not trying to raise any hackles but the bottom line is if the guy is trying to prove it's real he dosent have the right info to back up his claim. If he is trying to prove its something that it's not he's on the right track. Really if you wanted to make a fake look real you would think the guy would come up with a more legit story. All a guy would have to do is spend a few days on this board reading threads and he would be able to come up with a more viable story to substaciate his claim. Lets say it is real and give him the benifit of the dought, he dosent have the right info avaiable to a potential buyer to get his price unless he finds a rich rube'. Concensus seems to be the car is not real and unless some new or unfound info hits the site thats not going to change anytime soon. Blownaway i see your just the go between but put yourself in our shoes, would you believe you with so much evidence against and not much for?. Your bringing a car to the guys that live and breath this stuff you should be aware that they might tear you a new one!

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
The lakewood cage is the typical 3 point kind and it came out in 66-67 era.
I noticed in an old pic the car had a Mr. Gasket Vertical gate. The first style came out in '72 and the second style came out in '74ish. I can't remember if it had the first or second style but the style would help date the car. |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
The motor in the car is a 427 from a 68 Corvette with a Corvette VIN so there's no way it's the original motor for the car. The rest of the story is interesting but without some solid proof or paperwork it's a crap shoot.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Not sure if this means anything or not but the vertical gate shifter in the car is the later style that came out in 74ish and on up. The first style had a litle round bar off the main handle and they were prone to breakage. It was a poor design. Mr. G then came out with the triangular shaped brace that was very strong. This piece is on the front of the shifter.
