Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
Part of the issue is that Marty is funding the book with his own $$'s as among oher things he wants to remain free from the demands a publisher might put on the content and layout of the book. I think the question is whether there would be a better chance of recouping his investment by having a soft cover & less expensive book without as much color or a higher end coffee table type hardback book with better paper and more color. I vote for the nicer more expensive book and perhaps he could pre-sell the book to help offset some of the upfront costs of production. Also a Joel Rosen autographed limited edition could raise some additional $$'s as well. Thoughts?

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
No new info other what has been posted. I currently have a '69 Yenko Camaro under restoration and am finishing up a '69 Baldwin Motion Camaro and gathering parts for the eventual resoration of the Chevelle. The restoration of the Chevelle should start in '06 and should be complete for the '07 SCR.

Your Cars are always top notch. I look forward to seeing anyone of them. |
Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
First I'd like to say hello to all.The reason why I joined is because I know this car personally.I am from Connecticut(now living in florida)I was just up there for 3 weeks to visit & was at a local car show in Trumbull CT.& saw an old friend of mine & the chevelle & owner (previous) came up in conversation. That's when he told me the car was sold to a person in georgia!Well low & behold I found it here.My family owned a auto parts store in Bridgeport CT.for many years & the previous owner had an acct.with us for his business.I remember when he got this car because for many years this car sat at a Body Shop/Towing co.in BPT.When we were younger (about 25 yrs.ago) we used to drive by there all the time & BUG the then owner to try & buy it.We were always told "IT'S NOT FOR SALE" We knew it was rare because of THE "427" badging but did not know it was the ONLY 1967 BALDWIN MOTION CHEVELLE MADE.We offered him $2000 at the time which was pretty good $$.The story I was told that the owner of the Body Shop/Car back then ran into some "LEGAL PROBLEMS" & that is how my old friend purchased the car to which he sold to COPO.I did not know the mason bros.as I was around 7 yrs old when the car was new,But I do remember a lot a bad rides back then. When I saw the pictures here I could not believe it.Eventually we settled for "STD" versions of SS nova's,chevelles,Z/28's & even a 1970 buick stage 1.Ahh the good old days.Just thought I would share my story of this car with everyone & maybe add some new history that was not known.

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
Great story and info. It really is a very special car especially with the lengthy magazine features when it was new. I'm still collecting some parts for the car, but hopefully can get the restoration going sometime next year. I had a couple ahead of it in line.

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
Where is "Charlie Mason" now? There is a older guy named Chuck Mason here in Augusta area that ran a speed shop, plus is one of the most sought after tuners in the area.

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
Nothing new to report on the Chevelle, still in the parts gathering stage and it is in the queue waiting its turn to return to its former glory. This is truly an amazing car because of its extensive vintage magazine coverage when it was new and the fact that is was at times used by Motion to test new parts coming to the market. As an example, it was one of the first cars to run the new at the time edelbrock tunnel ram with two fours. This was when it ran 10's at the track and on the street. The other thing that I think is really cool, is our own Joe G. remembers this car at the Motion shop and it was one of the reasons he originally bought his '69 BM Chevelle.
I have two cars currently undergoing restoration and those take a lot of my time and car money. With two teenagers heavily into travel sports, it's hard to find car time these days. The somewhat new news is during the summer I picked up a previously unknown Baldwin Motion find that a few on the board now know about and I will post some pics and info on a new thread before long. Thanks for the interest. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

That car is just beautiful with all of it's rich history. I have found a copy of Hi-Performance Cars 1/69' in mint shape. Nice to have that article about your car in there.
Is there any up-dates as to the resto job? |

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
The '67 BM Chevelle is still patiently awaiting restoration. I have continued to gather parts and recently scored a correctly dated 427 that was sold new over the counter at Berger Chevrolet in 1967. My 69 Yenko Camaro is on track to be finished later this year, so I can get another car started once it is completed. My 69 BM Camaro is close to completion as well. It is painted and just needs the engine installed and a few finishing touches. The shop doing the BM Camaro is EXTREMELY slow and I may need to pull it from them. Not much progress on that one in the past year.
The other more recent find is a '70 BM Phase III Chevelle, 1 of 3 documented by Joel. More details later. |

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
[ QUOTE ]
Just had a nice conversation with Joel Rosen about the car and he certainly remembered it. In fact, he told me a story of when he was racing it in 1968 at NY National Speedway and flipped it over after losing traction with the skinny 7" slicks that were on it. that explains why the roof was replaced on the car. He said he was upside down in the car hanging by the lap belt and John Mahler had to get him out. He wasn't seriously injured, just shaken up but did go to the hospital to make sure he did not break anything. He also told me was that he was pretty sure that it was the only '67 Chevelle he built. He is going to look though his files and see if he has any paperwork from when the car was built. One final thing he mentioned was Marty Schorr's upcoming book on the Motion history and that he had been working very closely with Marty. He was wondering if there would be demand for a nice hard cover coffee table type book and perhaps an autographed limited edition. I'm sure there would be quite a few site members that would be very interested. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif [/ QUOTE ]any word on how the book is coming https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
