Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Darren
If I'm not mistaken, the 1970 Chicago AutoShow was to be held at the newly built McCormick Place. But there was a fire, and they had to go back to the International Ampitheater. |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
I was wondering that myself. Judging from the pictures the venue looks rather small. My brother took them I will get more details.

Kevin,
What's the story on the vinyl roof? |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Very nice Kevin.
Throw on some bell bottoms, platforms, etc. Then jump in the picture. Whala! Vintage pic 1969 |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Dennis;
The original owner (kenny wheeler aka PeeWee!) of that car ordered it at Yenko SportCars and wanted a vinyl top. When the car came in, no vinyl top! So, Don sent it down the street to a shop (Regency Co. I believe), and they installed the top before it was sold new. I believe it is a '68 style? Not sure on the details, Brian can correct this |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Is the missing 10% original paint under the Vinyl roof?

Car was sold in Haney, British Columbia and raced at Mission Raceway by Buck Kinney.
I believe that this is a COPO. At least 3 Camaros were sold there. One was restored & sold into California a few years back. |

I love those Keystone Mags on the Camaro!!
mr70, I've got another picture of a car you would like to see. This car was raced by Buck Kinney for over 25 tears and was sold a couple of years ago for about 25K USD. This car was a 5 time NHRA Div. 6 record holder in it's class. How many people race convertibles? You can't see it well in this picture but the cowl induction flap is open. 402 big Block power |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
I should mention that Buck Kinney is one of few if not the only Canadian in the NHRA hall of fame.

You're Killing me here!
What a nice shot.Love the decal collage. Notice the fuel psi gauge mounted on the hood. Truppi/Kling was a 1970 LS6 Chevelle Convert.raced around the North East in the NHRA. |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Yeah, the vinyl runs to the drip rail. Pretty cool if it's still the same material installed in '69.

[/ QUOTE ] Is the dealership in Haney called Reuben Burge Motors????? any other info on the 3 cars beleived to be sold there??? Peter |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Dealership is as noted on the rear quarter panel.
Mussalem motors. Still there as Mussalem Chev Olds. Back then it was in the middle of nowhere. Buck Kinney, being a racer & a young mechanic there, talked the owner into bringing in 3 cars. They apparently sold so fast the dealership tried to bring in more but couldn't get them. There's a great story about the one car that was restored. A Camaro guy named Gary Grant came accross a 427 COPO engine & used the VIN to track down the original car. The car was then totally restored, I'll see if I can dig up the whole story as it was in a local magazine a while ago. I believe the picture is one of the 3 |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
COPO PETE
The copoconnection website has a car from Mussallem listed. Must be the restored one. just noticed that I misspelled the dealer name. http://www.copo.com/L72-VIN-69-Canadian-Camaro.htm |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Kim Howie, I really think your camaro is cool. How did you find it? Do you have any "as found" pics? You find some really cool ones. I still love the pic of the late Dennis Hartwegs Deuces Wild COPO Nova.

Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Kim, is that the car that was used for the drawing on the cover of the Dick Harrell parts catolog?
|
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Joe, I would like to yes, but can't, The drawing is a composite of mine and the GT car the lettering on my car is backwards to all the other Gibb-Harrell cars. Dicks name on the back and Freds name on the door ,mine is backwards. The car your talking about has the lettering the as the GT car but the Gt didn't have a tunnel-ram and hood scoop
|
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Joe after reading your post again i realized were talking about two different things. I was talking about the Safety & performance clinic mag . Are you asking about that pic or are you talking about some other catalogue.

Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Kim, I am talking about the drawing on the Dick Harrell parts catolog. I only have a B&W picture from an add but the car has "Dick Harrell" on the quarter panel and "Fred Gibb" on the door in the crest graphic.

Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
I think my first answer would be correct, that's kind of a composite.

Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Hi guys...looking at all the neat vintage Supercar pics everyone has posted got me diggin' in my Dad's attic over the weekend. Thought I'd share some vintage pics of some of the cars he used to own back in the late 60's early 70's, not necessarily Supercars but cool nonetheless. Sorry for the poor quality, I don't have a scanner so I had to just take digital pics of the old pics themselves. Here's a pic of his '68 Chevelle, note the Motion style 'glassed on hoodscoop, chrome reverse wheels, sure looked tuff. 68 Chevelle

Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Here are a few more...the first is a 69 Nova taken in about 73 or 4, just a 350 base car but he gave it the Motion appearance treatment, side pipes, 'glassed on hoodscoop, even added his own painted on Yenko Deuce style sidstriping as he was a student in Pittsburgh back in 69-70 and often visited the Canonsburg dealership, thought the Deuce's stripe package looked cool. 69 Nova
Here is another of the same car...he liked to do his own paint/bodywork so this car was at one time just about every color you could get a 69 Nova in, here it's LeMans blue with chrome reverse wheels, also note the hand scheened "Nova-Caine" license plate, he liked to have catchy names for his cars back then...that's my Mom in the foreground. NovaCaine Another of his '68 327 Vette, taken in about '71...International Blue with light blue gut, 4 speed, had International 15x8" slotted aluminum Mag wheels with original F-70 wide treads on the front, beastly Formula 1 Super Stocks on the back, painted a subtle hood detail stripe as well...and another home made front license plate. 68 Vette Here's one last one...this was his Hugger Orange/ black vinyl top 66 ElCamino, that he liked to use to haul around his drums and band equipment in, chrome reverse wheels on it as well, with the Vette's hand me down wide treads on the front. I think every car he owned was painted Hugger Orange at one time or another...check out the Vintage '55 Chevy pics section for some of his Hugger Orange '56 Bel Air. Thanks for looking everyone, and again sorry for the poor quality pics. 66 Camino |
Re: Vintage Camaro Pics
Forgot perhaps the best one...because it's actually a vintage Camaro pic...taken in front of high school in 1967, my Dad and his crew beside a '67 Camaro, you can see a Corvair in the background and maybe an Impala station wagon? Dig the original skinny redlines and hubcaps.Class of '67
