Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
I now must admit my first thoughts, on Grady parting with his Ammon R Smith all OE drivetrain, paper, and OE paint 69 L78 Nova, were wrong.
Here are a few shots of that car from the SLS #4 I think. At that time Chick came to see his old car for the first time in many years, and meet Grady and share some of the original paperwork. Thanks goes to Skip for setting it up. And then at another SLS event Skip drives up with the then "Brown Turd" , and the rest is history. I think you may see from these shots why I first was not as excited about it as Grady was. But what a great story for the Nova to go back to Chick Renn the original owner and his family, I know they were all on board with the car coming home. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscf1315.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscf1178.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscf1180.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscf1181.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscf1342.jpg It was great to do another car with Grady, he does what it takes to do a great car, as seen with all the period correct Day 2 parts used on this build. They Day 2 stuff always creats a few problems along the way, which I reminded Grady about as each new one popped up. I think my exact words were , "Hay Grady it's Day 2" deal with it... Grady was a hugh help on getting this car done in time for the show. He worked allot on all the day 2 installtions. We only started the first of January, I won't do that again. But we both agreed it was doable. And it sure paid off, was way more fun that doing anothe cookie cutter COPO. I got a little testy a few times but grady already knows I am a PITA Thanks Grady, you ready for another one ? Can't let Tibor show us up...to much. And that Dave guy down in Texas.....Gheeez. Mike |
Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Chick Renn is one fine human being. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. He has a great collection and the Nova returning to him is icing on the cake.

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Mike, great seeing you and grady at MCACN. This car makes my head spin. I cannot wait to hear the video... Have Bruce help you with the upload. We're all waiting here with baited breath!

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
I had the pleasure of hearing it at the move in day, and let me tell you after he shut it down the big room was silent and all I could do was start a round of applause which I was quickly joined with by all around in eatshot. That thing is a mon-freakin-ster!

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Looks great..one of the better Day 2 restos..gotta get rid of that square hole air cleaner cover though-those did not come out until the 2000's. Round hole is correct.

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Nice compliment if that's all Wht-top could find. What a huge difference over an original copo. Great job!

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Grady/Mike, congrats on awards! The attention to the details, be it OEM or Day Two, is right on the money. Looks like it's ready for action!

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
A question about the traction bars................
So the left and right are different lengths, it appears as well the snubbers are different sizes? Tim https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscf7120.jpg |
Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
|
Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Back in the day we would "tune" the suspension/launch by altering the length of the snubbers ... TAZ

These bars were on my 1969 L78 Nova that Mike restored a few years back. Grady |

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
The Nova is very cool, and to go back the original owner:-).
Love it!!! I got to meet Chick briedly at MCACN, we drive over to the parking yard to get some parts he brought for me from Dave Siltman. I didn't know about the Nova then, or I would have asked about it. Next time. Ryan PS: How come everybody loves Burnished Brown now? I thought it was just me:-) |

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
I would like to thank everyone for all of your compliments. This has been a great car to do with Mike and as always his work is awesome. The last few weeks of trying to finish it for MCACN were a little trying but all worked out.
Yes Mike I am ready to start the next one. I agree we have to try and stay one step ahead of that kwhizz guy and our friend from Texas! Mike, Thank you for all you do. I appreciate everything. Grady |
Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
You guys are a duo! Everything you and M22 do is top shelf Burchy!
|
Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh....that is a beauty!
What's the build date on the car?...noticed it was a later build with the Vin sticker on the door. |

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Texas friend? I can tell you that you have NOTHING to worry about as far as staying ahead of me. Mike's work is flawless and I'm just hoping that flawlessness can be absorbed somehow through the internet to reflect that perfection onto the cars I try and do. Really looking forward to the next build....but geezeum man.....start a thread beforehand! Don't nobody want to wait to see the after junk! That's proper English, right? We may have to come up for that Chevelle show and bug you two in person
Cheers |
Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Thanks Dave, the flaws are there you just did not see them.... ....
That "B" will be close to a 1000 point car, wanna bet... A build thread is cool, I love watching them. But look what a surprise the Brown car was, like as soon as it was fired up in the back as we un loaded. Mike |
Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
Thanks Mikey...duh on me now that I've had a chance to read through the thread in detail...Cools beans...same build week as my COPO!

Re: Grady Burch's Day 2 COPO Camaro
The sun made a rare appearance here in NE Ohio today, and today Grady also picked up the car from my place to take it home for it's loooong winters nap. I finished up on a few items since the MCACN and this may be the last fair day for awhile so today was our window of opportunity , it was 38 when we loaded the car up.
So as promised we were able to get some parting shots with the sun on the car and you can actually tell it is brown. It was a great project, car was awesome, and Grady is a good guy to work with, he cuts no corners and that makes my job a pleasure. So here are the parting shot's till spring, and spring around here is still winter..
