Re: STOLEN: Dmax/trailer/COPO Camaro

------Tremendously happy for Pete!!! The reward did the trick, I guess. I wonder weather Petes insurance will somehow cover the reward??? I understand fully that just getting the car back is correctly the most important thing, but the ins.co. would have had to pay off what ever his policy stated until the reward was paid. The company (which ever co. it is) dodged a big bullet. I hope this post is seen as appropriate. If it isnt, moderators, please delete it!........Bill S

Glad to hear you got your prized possesion back Pete, the truck & trailer are replacable. When I went to Brandford to look at my Nova, the owner said theft was a real problem around there. So he had an anti-theft system put on the nova. I have left the anti theft in the car, just in case!! Hope all the parts & pieces are still in place on the COPO.

I'm anxious to hear from Peter but for now I'm just happy the car is back home. I'm sure it's been a horrible week for them and right or wrong I'd still like to see someone hang for this, but unfortunately it's not my call.

I hope most of the stuff in the trailer was recovered too, but most importantly, the car is back and Peter & Vicki are safe. Everything else can eventually be replaced.

We're all very happy for you both! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

This is fantastic news!! Pete did the smart thing...kudos to him and anyone who provided him with the support and advice.
Last time I passed a Chev dealer you could still buy a DMax. I am wondering if it was the truck they were after in the first place. How could they have known what was in the trailer.
Theory on why the trailer was left...you have to sell it as a complete unit...nothing really valuable to part out.

Cant wait to hear Pete's first person account on this.

Get some rest first!!

PS Lets start a tread on security...I know there are lots of ideaswe can share without exposing our vulnerabilities.

Re: STOLEN: Dmax/trailer/COPO Camaro

Ironically, the perps did offer a bit of "advice"...disable the truck so it can't drive, whether it's via a kill switch or whatever...if they're not moving in 30 seconds they walk. Just something for us *all* to think about...

I am glad the Camaro is home and everyone is safe, foremost. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gifI am really disturbed that these crooks are well known enough that a phone call can turn up the car that quickly, with or without a reward. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif I would say turn over all info to the local authorities, but also living near a res I am fully aware of the lawlessness and the lack of any internal controls or responsibilities.

Hoping we all can learn from this terrible experience, that Pete has endured.

With all the considerable resources and contacts, our site members must have, surely we can put together a variety of do it yourself security and immobilizer tutorials ?????

I've never met Pete, but would like to extend my best wishes for all your future endeavors.

Re: STOLEN: Dmax/trailer/COPO Camaro

Hey guys. Thanks for all the support and to all the folks that posted on so many sites about this horrible news. What a roller coaster ride emotionally and physically.
Once I realized the complete rig was taken, I know time was very very precious. The odds of recovery looked very bleak and non existant.
Dealing with the cops was very frustrating and time consumming. A good friend suggested a reward right away to get there attention, cause usually the cars are parted out in the first 24 hours.
I knew in my heart that they were after the truck and the truck only, but the trailer was a bonus and I'm sure they could hardly wait to see what was behind door #1!
My friend went out on the reserve at noon the next day and put out a big reward on the condition that the car came back in the same shape they recieved it. Any damage would result in less money. It took 3 hours for the call(s) to come in.
Saturday things were lined up for a Sunday morning deal.
Sunday got up a 6am and drove the 2 hours back. We got a hotel room 20 minutes away from where it was going to happen. The next 48 hours you could have made a movie. Came home Sunday night with no car and negotiations started all over again on Monday. Finally @ 6pm the exchange was made off the rez in a church parking lot. Can't give any more details than that right now, but I still can't believe the car is in my shop as it was literally hours away from being parted out. Indians told me the car was "scary fast" and that it was the fastest car they ever drove.
You gotta do what you gotta do. There is going to be some changes around here! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif
Thanks again for all your support.
Peter

Great news Peter! We fully understand that there are things you can't disclose. Kinda like negotiating with kidnappers; keep it among those you can trust and first-and-foremost, protect yourself!

Let's hope that this is your last dealing with them.

I can't even imagine the emotional roller coaster you must have been on ! Speaking of movies I just saw the "Frozen River " the other night about smuggling people through the Res through Canada and into the USA and then I read this .

Sorry for all your grief but way to think on your feet and get the reward out and ultimately the car back .

Pete, that is fantastic news. Glad to hear your car is back in your hands. It sounds like you had to do whatever it took to get the car back, which is exactly what most of us, especially me, would have done. I would have taken out a loan out to get it back. They make trucks and trailers everyday. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Does this mean that if you go on the reservation, get your car, shoot them and then return to non-reservation soil, that reservation police can't do anything to you? And since the shooting didn't occur in their jurisdiction, the local police can't do anything either. That seems to be the way it should work, doesn't it? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

In any event, I'm glad you got your car back. I just have a problem with people who feel they have the right to take or destroy something that is not theirs.... Although I guess this is an interesting theory when the issue involved Native Americans....

I have been following this story and started to give up hope. The return of this COPO is great news.

I dont recommend starting a thread about anti theft devices, keep them to yourself. Think of it as Operational Security. Stay one step ahead of the bad guys.
