I remember that car out here in California. I was taken to the Mni Nats around ten years ago. maybe longer…..

The paint on the fender was off then……..

Sounds like it went to the right guy!

Take care of it!

I'm probably gonna get some Flack,.......But......Again...being a Numbers guy ain't so Easy........I couldn't leave it alone......At sometime in it's past, someone used rattle can Trunk splatter paint on the lower part of the trunk ....."And" ......when the passenger side front fender was re-painted back in the 70's
........it was a shade or two off.......and there were some little dent's in the car......Took the car to Nostalgic and Kevin and Joe redid the Trunk Splatter as original......"And"........since the front fender was already repainted once.....Kevin mixed some paint and matched the "Original"color perfectly and reshot the fender
.........I can now look at the car and the fender color doesn't stick out like a sore thumb......."And" Jimmy Pearse came over and did his Magic "Painless Dent Removal"........I know, I know...they were a part of the cars History.......But.......
Here are some pic's from today when I picked it up....

Trunk Pic's........

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...a/DSC03006.jpg

and Outside.......The guy's at Nostalgic had to work hard to dial back the paint finish to get it to match the original finish.....

Love that car Ken,but stop there and don't overdue it.Looks like they did a great job in the trunk area, must have perfected the original look.

Re: I'm Now a "Numbers" Guy.......

Ken, I think you should tub it, put on some polished Centerlines, paint it Pepto Bismol pink, even the bumpers, grille and all chrome trim. Pink and silver interior with a 20-point cage and a huge tach with a shift light. Put in a mild blown 350 with a Th-350, paint that pink too.

The '80s fairgrounds Pro Street thing will make a comeback, as every trend seems to, and then you'll have the jump on the rest of us!

Re: I'm Now a "Numbers" Guy.......

I guess mistake #1 is to assume that whatever was done to a car in it's past is done correctly.......The Nova had a problem starting when it was cold....It would Start and immediately shut off......now...I haven't driven it enough to understand it yet........this starting and shutting off thing bothered me and I wanted to correct it....at first I thought it was a Fuel Issue.......I was going to send the Carb to Eric and as I was getting ready to take it off I found my 66 Service Manual and decided to follow the specifications for setting the Carb........Humm!!........Everything O.K.......Let's see.....For the Engine to run, we need Fuel (O.K.).....Air (O.K.)......and Spark....Let's check the Spark....Pulled off the Cap and seen that someone in the past had installed one of the Early versions of a Pertronix Point conversion Kit......I had one of these in the Convert and knew that there was a newer version available that was better and I just happened to have one on the Shelf....So...I pulled the distributor and swithched to the newer version....as I was putting it back in I noticed that the Resistor wire was hooked up for a normal point operation......Makes sense that the ignition was getting a full shot of voltage while cranking from the Starter and when the Key was released it went to the Resistor wire (Reduced Voltage) and there wasn't enough voltage for the Pertronix system to function until the wire developed some heat??......Anyhow....Bypassed the resistor wire temporarily and everything is fine........

It's hard work being a Number's Guy....After looking at Sammy's "Z" at Vettefest and being amazed at how clean and detailed he keeps it.....I just had to start cleaning the bottom of the Nova........A couple cans of WD 40 and some stiff Artist size paint brushes and a lot of patience and elbow grease........It cleaned up better than I could have imagined.......Got Lucky again with a Rust free car....the Before pic's were posted earlier......here are some after pic's.........Don't want to change or Paint anything....Just clean.........Like I said earlier........Being a Numbers Guy is Harder than I thought.....After posting these Pic's I gotta take a Nap....

I knew there was a reason I liked you Ken! Since we all know the General's design worked great, why change it and have to worry whether someone ELSE'S design will work ok????? Stick with proven success!!!
Also, it's a lot easier to change a spare set of points and condensor than a complete spare Pertronics set-up in case it Poops out on a tour.

Strictly my own personal opinion, and no personal jabs meant........but I think Pertronics set-ups are just for lazy people. I happen to LIKE checking my points once in awhile. It also gives me a chance to inspect the contacts inside the cap, the rotor tip and maybe even clean and regrease the cam. I also LIKE being able to set the dwell. There are some advantages to that. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

O.K.......The SEMA story......Humm!!......I bought a aftermarket HEI Distributor that I had in the Yellow Chevelle.............Put it in the car Early last year and as I was driving along the Car quit running.....Cost me $250 to get it flatbedded back home and found out it was the Dist'r........Took it over to the local Speed shop and he exchanged it for me.......Put it back in the car and while on the way to LaHarpe for the Gibb Show.......The car quit running again.......Only....This time I had a Spare GM Distributor in the trunk.....15 minutes later I was back on the road.......
So....I get home and get on the phone with the MSD Tech guys and read them the Riot act about their "Junk" that they sell.......because I didn't have a Sales receipt they gave me a hard time about fixing the unit......but after being a "Pain"....they agreed to take a look at it....So...I got a RGA # and sent it back.......a month go's by and one day I realize that the unit never came back........Typical Corporate B.S..........So ....I call and talk to the Service Tech that I originally gave a hard time to........So......I said to him....."You Know, it's been a month.....where's my Unit"............He asked for the RGA # and put's me on hold.....a couple of minutes later he gets on the Phone and said.......I found the problem..........You are the guy that sent an Accel Distributor to MSD to get it fixed......OOPPS!!!

Accel has since fixed the unit...........

More "Hard" Numbers Guy Work.........In the past I cleaned and detailed most of the bottom of the new Nova....I didn't do the rear wheel well area's......So....Today.....I realized that nothing good was going to happen if I stayed in the House with the Princess.....I decided to be a Numbers guy for the morning and stay in the Safety of the Garage......Took the rear wheels off and detailed the wheelwells with WD-40 and finished them off with Boeshield........It's amazing how this car has lasted all those years without "any" Rust Issues.......Here are some after pic's ....

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...a/DSC02415.jpg

So....I bought a correct Nova Radio off EBay and sent it out and had it redone at Vintage Auto Radio http://www.vintageautoradio.com/ It looks perfectly stock, but....It's AM-FM and has the Sirius hookup built right into it and is set up for 4 Speakers.....When I took out the aftermarket radio I realized that all the mounting brackets were different from stock......so ...I ended up buying the stock GM mounting brackets and a Repro faceplate off Ebay.......I put it all back to stock today and it plays great......But......After installing everything the Face Plate doesn't look right......I'll have to check out of a stock one but the repro seems too shiney.....Another Project for Another Day.................LOL......But.....I'm keeping Sammy "Happy"....
