Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
I know Steve Offered, but I will too... Sell it to me I will clean and preserve it and sell it back to you...
The interior in that car could look brand new. It takes so many hours of light circular brush work with the right cleaners to get the grain clean, no amount of rubbing or heavy brushing will do it. The bristles need to be fairly fine, short so they wont roll over, and varied in height which allows the shorter bristles to ride on the top of the grain while the longer ones penetrate into the grain, the key is that the lighter your pressure the better it works. A cheapo motorized toothbrush which oscillates works great, AGAIN THE KEY IS LIGHT PRESSURE. If the car is a typical original interior in nice serviceable vehicle I check a spot or two on the seats and then the tops of the door panels using a toothbrush a CLEAN white rag and Spray Away NON AMMONIA window cleaner which I buy in 3 or 4 packs at Sams. Just a spot or two will tell you if the interior is clean, spray the window cleaner into the brush then brush lightly in a small (2-4" diam) circle for a min or two and wipe with the white rag. |

What an absolutely beautiful car.
You know, that new Preservation forum isn't getting much attention. Maybe a move is in order??? After all, this car isn't JUST another Chevrolet.... Verne |

Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
The crank was nos too. Heads took two years to get back from the best head guy in S.Ca. I had a set of nos MT scavengers, but the guy that installed the headers said they were too long (BS)...they were mocked up on a 1970 Nova. Car was never scraped or dented in it's life...rare for a hypo 4sp car. Can't believe the black plates were sold off. The registration stickers showed when it was last registered in 1971, when the kid got killed coming back home from a drag strip with a friend. More than likely Lyons. Good car worth keeping.

Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
I'm in the process of doing some brake work to the car. After rebuilding the front calipers, I am not impressed with the brake fluid pressure or volume at the calipers when bleeding. I took the car for a road test and again, I am not impressed.
So, is there a way to test/check the distribution block as well as the proportioning valve? I know replacements are available. I would just like to keep the original parts on it. Thanks! Tim http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psij6n2kaz.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psecypxjei.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...ps24ivmgme.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...pse0mcsfje.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...pskaqanb4h.jpg |
Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
After DW Cook gave me a little advice in the tech section, I was able to figure out how the proportioning valve works.
Rebuilt the M/C with a kit, opened up the proportioning valve to vacuum bleed the brakes and.............shazam!.................WE GOT BRAKES....................as good as they are going to get with a ZL1 cam. Got a few things sorted out on the car, then bubba's work on the carb reared its head. The baseplate was glued where the idle screw threads in. I've got a message into Eric to see if he has a nice baseplate for a 4053 Holley So much for a debut at a little car show tomorrow Tim |
Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
Glad you got the brakes sorted out. Hopefully Eric will have what you need to get that beast running nicely again.
|
Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
Eric rebuilt the carb.
..what did you call him? The brakes are a different story. That would be Sal from American muscle cars. He's the reason I sold the car after 13 years of ownership. |
Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
Wicked sounding ride.

I believe someone else was in there since then. Again, the brakes with a ZL1 cam..........pretty good! |

Looks like the same for 67 Nova with factory Disc? Code "DA" Dave 67 Nova Boy |
Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
Dave,
The stamping is really light. I would say the last letter is "T". The first, I cannot make it out. A "WT" master would have come on the car. Are the original stampings usually that light? The way the bore of the master was corroded and the patina of the exterior, a person may be willing to speculate it is original. I'm surprised the M/C kit worked Thanks, Tim |

Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
Here are a few pics from the carb. Frankly, I've never run into this before. Is there a good way to repair it?
I see Heartbeat City has one that appears to be very correct. Please advise is there a detail I missed. Tim http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psjhih4zn9.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psvlmfgzhq.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psjwbf9rzk.jpg |

Tim Dave 67 Nova Boy </div></div> You might want to just send the master and proportioning valves to Whitepost. They did an awesome job on the original master cylinder and wheel cylinders in my survivior SD455. If you tell them in advance that it is a survivior car they will leave the outside finish intact. |
Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
In my 70+ years I have probably seen a gazillion Holley carbs -- I've never seen an issue like this with the idle screw. TAZ

Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
Tim, i think a skilled person could tig weld this together. But it will be as a repair, if it has to be undetectable you should find a base plate. Roger

The {AD 1" bore} is for manual disc which is the same as the 67 Nova with factory disc. They are all hard to find! Looks good to me on originality to the car Tim...great car!!!! Re: Harry Mann 68 L78 / L88 Camaro
While waiting to get a baseplate, I thought I would take the opportunity to start preserving the paint. Inspired by Darrel Cook, I clayed the car out, and started the #7 Meguiar's spa treatment.
BEFORE http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psxngh71ht.jpg DURING http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psgyxq8own.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psexvs4gun.jpg AFTER http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...pszijf2p3j.jpg The results are somewhat minimal. I certainly can see on the towels where the oxidation from the metallic was being picked up. I have chosen not to proceed with any machine polishing, opting for the natural look of the lacquer. I never would have thought I (or any of us) would spend so much time documenting how lousy the finish quality was on my pride and joy(s) Tim |
