Re: 70 Chevelle radiator tank codes
Sorry Rainer, that should read RPO VO-1,not KO-1..LOL..(I was reading about the KO-Motion Vette before that.)
For 1970,the BQ got the nod as the optional Heavy Duty cooling rad. for some,(i.e..Not Super Sport) Manual trans. equipped Big Block Malibu/Chevelle/Elco/Monte C.BR was for those w/Auto.Trans. It's a 3 core and was the highest cooling rad. offered for some specific vehicles. The larger capacity PA,PD 4 core was not always possible/recommended/needed on every single vehicle when Heavy Duty Cooling was requested. |
Re: 70 Chevelle radiator tank codes
Rick,
One more question while we're on the topic. what is the correct code for my 70 4 speed LS-3 Monte? originally NO A/C and NO heavy duty cooling option. It had been replaced when I got the car, and seemed to have a very thin core with large tanks, but did not have the extended tabs on the rad support or hold down. thanks, |
Re: 70 Chevelle radiator tank codes
That would have originally been built with a std. 3 core radiator, part #3016908 carrying a BE coded prefix tag.
BTW-Parts Place,Ricks Camaro & others are selling reproduction radiator tags now, albeit not 100% authentic to the originals. The reproduction Chevelle/Elco/Monte C. applications tags I've seen so far are: BK-BE-BO-BJ-BR-BQ-PA-PD. |

Thanks Rick,https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
Came to my senses after the fact and checked box 46 on the build sheet too. it shows 65 BE. Just took a fresh look at the 71 SS monte build sheet too. heavy duty rad is not listed as an option and the build sheet calls out PD |
Re: 70 Chevelle radiator tank codes
You're right Dave,sorry for that mis-information there.
I glossed over the fact that your's is a 1971. My earlier reply was correct for the same equipped 1970 Monte Carlo SS. 1970 SS Monte Carlo's were set up a lil different, and that's what I included your's as. The following model year, they made some changes. In 1971,they received the 4 core radiator upgrade as now automatically included with the AC option. You won't see a notation of RPO VO-1 Heavy Duty cooling on the buildsheet as it was included with RPO C-60 when the Super Sport option was also included now,so redundant to mention it. Your 71 M/C was originally built with an X F P/S tank & an I F D/S tank to make up your 4 core PD radiator, part #3017248,and was shared with various other 1970-71 Big Block Chevelles & Monte Carlos. Hope I've helped you some.. |
