What sucks is you KNOW you are going to pay too much because every other sniper is usually putting in an amount more than the thing is worth...worth and want makes the difference.

I still wonder why intelligent, knowledgeable users on this forum love Ebay! Scams abound, fraudulent auctions are common and you never know what you paid for site unseen items.

Go back to the roots of the Muscle Car interest. Attend swap meets, cruzin's and local car shows. You just might find what you're looking for!

Love is a bit of an overstatement ! Necessary evil is more like it....lots of vendors stay home now and use e-bay for hard to find stuff...

I love ebay because you can now find and buy stuff that you could have walked 10,000 swap meets for the next 100 years and never have found... Don't get me wrong, i LOVE swap meets, and have not missed one single Spring or Fall Carlisle since i was 8 years old (no kidding!)

Also...you hit what? maybe 5-6 big swaps in your tri-state area...during the summer months, and see the same junky parts from the same tri-state area, and there's plenty of buying/selling/marking up going on a swap meets too...half of the stuff anyone's ever bought at carlisle on a saturday has been sold once or twice already, cars included.

Ebay is 24/7 all year round with vendors from all points on the globe. GFL finding Yenko or Motion stuff in California or Nevada, or for that matter, rust-free sheetmetal in NY, OH, or PA. Not to mention the fact that with swap meets, you drive all nite, pay $10 to get in, and walk around all friggin' day to sometimes come home with absolutely nothing. Ebay you can do in your skivvies with a bowl of ceral on your lap at 4 AM on a Tuesday if you wish with just as much likelihood of finding something good as if you were at the Charlotte Autofair. And if you don't find anything? No biggie, look again tomorrow, no cost involved... and you didn't have to use a sick day to go looking!
But the biggest reason I love ebay is because most of the stuff i buy would have never found its way out of people's attics and garage shelves if not for online auctions. Yeah, i still do all the swap meets too, but even before ebay existed, you could never carry home some of the prizes you can buy from ebay on a regular basis. And not only that, I know we all have other hobbies other than Super Cars. I myself like all kinds of things Automotive. I buy and sell and collect model cars, die casts, magazines and other stuff like that. The most obvious is use common sense and communication. I haven't seen a scam yet that you couldn't see coming a mile away. But you can tell when you're dealing with an honest seller. And if you get burned on a scam because you didn't do your homework first, then you deserve it and you just got yourself a learning experience. For me, living in England, there is no other way for me to play. I think that for you guys in the States, too, trying to find NOS parts or specific dealer memorabilia (mine are in Wisconsin and Ohio) the local swaps just doesn't cut it, especially if you live in another state. I mean, where else are you going to find 4 NOS Deal with Dale dealer plates or know that the 69 Milwaukee USAC race program had a half page Dale ad touting 427 Camaros, Chevelles and Novas?

As for sniping tools, they're a godsend to me. I used to set my alarm to get up at 330am to bid on an auction that ended at 735pm PST - not good for marital bliss, I can tell you that! Plus, I travel so much Ireally appreciate the set and forget feature (I just got off another red-eye to Moscow). It's my equivalent of Marlin's dump a big bid strategy, but no can test my resolve over the course of the auction.
