Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
No way was this fellow concerned about preserving history . . . not with that neglect. Those cars were probably hidden away to avoid paying taxes on unsold cars at the end of the year!

Re: Auction, old Chevrolet cars w/super low mileage
Mark
You're right, but the story goes that he was an extremely savy new car dealer. When new car customers came with a trade in,he took their used vehicles to a nearby farm he owned and stored them there...forever,never to be resold. He wanted to sell new cars, not used,as the profit margin was greater for him,and he didn't have to worry about warranting used cars either. That's the way his mind worked. A few brand new & low mileage vehicles, like the '58 Cameo were delivered to him and were never titled. It's reported they needed some work done due to damage during delivery and were eventually neglected by him as time wore on. He was an extremely small dealership. |

Nor was Lambrecht the only small dealer in the area who operated on similar principles; there were several. Unfortunately, most of those other collections were either sold for scrap and crushed in the 80's or left to deteriorate until they were in worse condition than the cars in Pierce. Not an unusual practice in this part of the world. I looked at buying these cars with a partner back in about 1999. The numbers didn't work out, for obvious reasons. Even 15 years ago, most of these things were too rough even to make good parts cars. |

I couldn't possibly get drunk enough to think that POS was worth $27K Shaun has already posted some excellent, high quality photos of the event over on the Impala SS427 site. To me, it looks just like walking through an auto junkyard about 30 years ago. |
