"Believed to be" is puffery.

No one knows how many were built, no one knows how many remain. From my 35 years of Camaro travels I know of two original owner 69s; an SS 396 and a Z11. Neither owner looks at any of the sites, belongs to a club or shows their car. Few others know of these cars. I'm sure there are many more unknown cars like these.

As I have seen these over the years, Stated numbers and Inflated numbers exist by those who CLAIM to be in the know based upon spread sheet data created by said production numbers.

Anyone can run a created data program and try to come up with some sort of generated results to promote what is THOUGHT to be actual or predicted run numbers; all based on hypothetical guessing.

The TRUE actual manufactured L78 pacecars that GM made can only be officially documented by GM thru THEIR historical DATA.

Anything else is ONLY a pure guess.

Some People try to state that VN made a few hundred 396 PaceCars.

I would LOVE to see over 30 1969 VN 396 numbered PaceCars assembled at a show at one time!

It will never happen!!!!!!!!!!

You IMHO the L78 Z11 might be the ultimate RPO Camaro that was available in 69. Coolest option, RS. Coolest colors, white with HO stripes and orange houndstooth. Coolest engine, L78! All that in a convertible. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Agree, but lets not forget about the 69 L89 Z11
There out there!

Obviously there is no etch in stone number out there and not even a consensus for the number of L78 Pace Cars built. But when you consider the number of 69 Yenko Camaros built, around 200+- and what most were purchased for, to drive hard or race and then consider the number you still see in collections and on the market. Compare that number to the number of L78 Pace Cars you see in collections and on the market and factor in that most were probably not purchased as cars to be driven hard and raced so a larger percentage may have survived I'd say the logical conclusion would be that the number is very very low. Much lower than the number of 69 Yenko Camaros built. I'm all ways looking for L78 Pace Cars for sale and they seam to be far and few in comparison to the number of Yenkos I see. JMO.

I looked for 10 years for a L78 Z11 with original motor when my good friend Chris P. found this one for me.I could not even find a documented L78 Z11 without original motor.

Found this in Chevrolet High Performance July 1988.
C.K.Spurlock was the owner.

iluv69s, I emailed you a few months back on your car. I'm still looking for your block but haven't had any new leads. I heard the drum brakes on your car came from a 68 Camaro owned by the same individual. The 68 was being driven at the time and got the disc upgrade.

So do you have any names that I do not have? I have spoken to and have a letter from the prior owner that pulles the original motor in 1978 to install a 350 in order to save gas. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

So are there actual documented L-89 Indy's out there?? That would defineitely be cooler than an L-78 car!!!

And how about M-22 Indy's? Any idea how many of them? Joe, is your car a 4-speed? Auto?
