Hi... I have seen 1 maybe 2 cars like that. Not sure if they were in the 70's. I think they had an abbreviation on the order with "SPEC' marked on it for paint.....

I think it was more the fact that the bodies were not that straight and issues with bonding seams etc.
The NCRS C3 judges told me that nearly every Early C3 had paint work done prior to leaving St Louis - I thought my LT1 had been touched up in a few places, however the areas are the same on nearly every car, including a 2k mile car with overspray on the base of the windshield and overspray on the edge of the outer tail light lenses.

FWIW Not all of the black cars have the same indications in the paint field on the TT. I have seen SPECIAL - SPEC - SPC -
The 71 LT1(March built) has SPC - the 71 LS5 (june built) has the entire word SPECIAL.
GM Overseas distribution stated that they had to put the paint color out for bid at the assembly plant - the charge was $83.00 to paint the LT1 black and required a nearly 20% down - $1000 non refundable deposit -prior to entering the order.
(my father said he had a 57 chevrolet painted in 1971 for $125, including removing the trim and spot primer, then refitting trim etc)

Just stumbled on this old post. I owned the 70 LT-1 roadster in this thread about 20 years ago. When I bought it it smoked like a diesel. Freshened up the engine and discovered the piston rings had been installed upside down. The heads had been milled heavily and the pistons were +030 12.5:1. It might have had 13:1 compression. Cleaning it out there were time slips under the seat and it ran 12.8 on street tires with headers and full exhaust.

I did not have the GM Canada docs, but I did drop the tank and photographed the tank sticker and knew it was an LT-1. The engine block was stamped with the VIN and I believe I recall a CTK suffix, but the casting date on the block was 1974. I don't know how they came to note for the ad that it was a warranty block, I assumed an uneducated re-stamp on a bad date block.

Nevertheless it was a fun car. Wonder where she went after this.

Just thought of another Vette I saw at a shop I worked from. It was delivered in primer from the factory, not sure of the year, 70-72....
