As far as the original drive train in the car I can tell you that the only original major piece is the trans. I suspect that the rear wasn't even original when Jay acquired it in 82. I say that because Jay always said it was a 4:56 and the car still retains a 4:56 today. As far as the car having an AC dash pad at Barrett someone had installed an aftermarket air unit. When I purchased it there was remnants of where it had been. Remember the car spent most of its life in California and Texas. The orange paint is still behind the seat as well as the X4 crayon.

I bought this car from Mick, not only I believe this car is genuine it has an outstanding rock solid body. I would still have it today but was offered a deal I couldn’t refuse trade wise. My good friend Dave Tinnell did a few cosmetic Changes for mr Dwiggens Before it was sold to Reggie . It’s real and a very, very solid COPO

Does anyone know if the correct body number is on the repro trim tag? What is the body number?

The 1969 shipping report data used by the NCRS includes the body number (same as order number). It is withheld from the reports they sell unfortunately. Most likely this is part of the Corvette document validation service, for example the one affixed to the gas tank

I can't be sure but Chip ordered the replacement trim tag and I imagine that the body number on the car is the original one. I know he didn't change the date and the only thing he had a reason to change was the color simply because he didn't want to paint it. He talked to me before he done it but done it anyway. I know for fact that the protecto plate existed for this car when Jay and Carl owned it, but who dropped the ball on transferring it we will likely never know.

Couple of interesting things that caught my eye in the article....4.56 ratio rear - would that show on the POP? Was chambered exhaust optional on COPO Camaros?

Carleen 07-19-2020 10:29 PM

From CRG

NC8
Exhaust system, dual, chambered. Standard on Z28, L34, L78, and L89 until 25Nov68.
Production ended 19May69.

All ZL-1 cars were equipped with AIR pumps and Gibbs' cars were produced with standard N10 dual exhaust.

William 07-20-2020 12:52 AM

Chambered exhaust was available for order until May 6th.

From the Zone letter:

"In addition, the NC8 dual chambered exhaust for Camaro SS will be cancelled effective May 19, 1969 at the assembly plants. All orders specifying this option will be produced with regular dual exhausts."

So, no NC8 after approximately VIN N645xxx.
