My '69 W-31 is similar to Ryan's car in several ways and was ordered without the radio and corresponding equipment. There is a continuing debate over the term &quot;radio delete&quot; as these cars had NO radio as standard equipment. The first owner of my car (sold in Feb. '71 after it's racing days) wanted a radio, so an Am was installed along with an antenna. Yes, they drilled the hole in the fender WAY back in 1971.....funny thing about mine?!? the owner's name is written on the radio!
I can believe Ryan's car could have come without a radio, if it, too was intended to race. </div></div>

Al and I had a great visit after work today!

We transferred the ownership at the MTO, and I was able to keep the ownership document from Feb 2nd 1973, I was also able to pay tax on her:-)

I purchased the used car package, which is like an Ontario ownership history.....it has Al's name on it.....exciting history eh!!!

We talked about the radio, he doesn't remember anything specific about it other than it may have been a little bit of an issue....but on the original bill of sale from (Ayr) County Garage it shows W63 Radio $88.60, and (no RPO code) Rear antenna $10.90 The antenna is on the right passenger front fender?
Al said they may have given him a case of beer for whatever mistake was made, but he just wanted his fast car as soon as possible.

another discrepancy i need to iron our is the rear end gears, Al says they are 3.91:1 and the BOS says G80 3.91:1 ratio, positration, $49.10 the GM VVS docs say G80 positration, and G92 3.42 ratio heavy duty...........TBD

Al and I then went to Tim Hortons and had a great chat, for about an hour......the car was not even mentioned once:-) Kids, grandkids, work, family, you name it.

I remember drooling over this issue a while back, my affection for Club Coupe Ram Rod/W-31 Oldsmobiles is not a new thing, I just recently came out of the closet proudly:-) (No commentary necessary I get the joke.....I made it!)

Yikes, better steer back onto the road:-)

I just had a (Duh) thought, my Protectoplate (That I have yet to decode) should indicate rear gear ratio, before I brave the cold to check drive shaft rotations vs wheel rotations:-)

I hope the Protectoplate data is similar to Chevelle as everything is spelled out clearly on these examples:-)

Ryan, in your earlier post, did you mean to say the paperwork you received from George Z. says the car has 3.42 gears and the original owner says it has 3.91 gears?

Yup!

And the BOS says 3.91 gears....TBD....I think 3.42 gears:-)

Ryan
I believe 3.91 gears were standard issue with the W31 package, although an extra cost item. GM Vintage Vehicle Services often uses later model years jargon and descriptions that are not completely accurate, some examples I have seen:
sport steering wheel, they call it a wood wheel
Bumper guards, they call ot bumper guard delete.
Not even sure 3.42 could be ordered as a substitute for the 3.91.

Posi rear:-) as I turned one rear wheel the other rear tire turns the same direction

Ratio? One revolution of a rear tire equals 3.4 turns of the driveshaft, unless I am doing it wrong looks like a 3.42:1 posi to me?

You are probably right on both attempts but the best way to find out is to pull the cover.
