Ford Falcon GT Sells For $1.8 Million

Quote:

Australian muscle cars just keep selling for more and more lately, with the latest example being this immaculate 1972 Ford XA Falcon GTHO Phase IV. As 1 of 4 made, it’s one rare bird, plus it’s the only one of that small group which is road-legal, a fact which helped it net a shocking $1.8 million.

Many repainted GTO’s have the body color in that area. Silly!

The pinstripe on a 65-66-67 GTO was one of the trademarks that set it apart from the Lemans and Tempest.

If you went to your Pontiac Dealer to special order a GTO to your liking, you could have the “delete pinstripe” noted on your order.

Not many elected to do this, consequently the vast majority of GTO’s have pinstripes.

I think the pinstripe looks awesome on these cars and accents the body lines.

Pinstripe colors.
Starlight Black
Cameo Ivory
Montero Red

The stripe colors were determined by exterior and interior colors of the car.

How many pin strippers are around anymore, who could accurately duplicate the factory stripe ? Probably why you don't see them.

Unfortunately, we all here at Yenko.Net know that the car sales industry, both classic and every day has a good portion of unscrupulous people involved in doing anything they can to make a buck; legal or illegal.

With the after effects of Ida, there will be literally hundreds of cars that were 100% water immersed. If those cars are judged to be total losses by their insurance companies, they will be sold to scrappers with a Salvage Title. Many states do not allow a ST vehicle to be repaired and put back on the road. But their are crooks who know how to turn a Salvage Title into a Regualr Title.

With the price of late model used cars going into orbit, if you are in the market for a used car in the next month or so, please use good judgement and due dilligence to make sure you do not get one of these cars.

Caveat Emptor . . . BUYER BEWARE!!

They were never done by hand. They used a machine that ran on a track along the side of the car. The same machine is still available:

Beugler Professional Striping Tool Kit with 7 Standard Wheel Heads is available for less than $200. Any competent car painter can use it to duplicate the factory pinstripes.

The only skill required is the beginning where they meet at an arrow point. Practice makes perfect.

Lee,

A few of the early 1965 GTO’s had the pinstripe applied by hand.

Member Keith Seymore owns one.

Chris.

I have a Buegler and it's going to take a lot of skill and practice to run that wheel down the entire length of a car in the correct position and straight without the fixture they used at the factory.

I always ran a 1/8" tape line first, and then followed it with my finger when i was running long lines.
