Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
It was the fan only. The first person that knew I had it bought it. He was also a friend so I think they will do more than that. These fans just don't come alone to often. Another friend of mine got one off of ebay a couple months back and cought everybody sleeping and got it for 50.00

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
I saw one sell on ebay awhile back for $175 and mentioned this in a PM. It sold on ebay and I asked the seller if it was the 3.25 inch style and it was. I was watching it and missed bidding on it before the auction ended. That was all I had to go on. I offered Charlie $250 (it was a starting point) but never heard anything back. Looks like we were off by $75. I was willing to make a deal, then the next thing I know, it ended up on ebay. You win some, you lose some.

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Jonsey...You haven't lost anything. It is on ebay at 200.00. You offered 250.00 but I was also hearing 400.00-600.00 so rather than try to argue with you over values it is just easier to list it on Ebay and really find out the market. What will happen is I will sell it and then need one in about 6 months.....

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Charlie, im not advocating that ebay is not a market value assessment - for commodity items, i think ebay establishes the market - but for rare items, it only establishes who and when will someone pay the highest price based on someones need - not what everyone will pay.
I thought offering parts on the site was one way to help the members rebuild these supercars back to original before the dreadful ebay route - then why have a for sale section. . just list everything thru ebay and eliminate this section? Anyhow, its only a car part, and if any of us want it - we know where to get it and how much we want to pay - too many far more important issues in the world going on than a debate on a 5 blade fan . . supercar or not. Peace with everyone.... |
Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Ed... Quite often when a member posts a wanted ad I do sell him the part if I have it and do it without Ebay. There are probably members that I have given the part to for free. Jonsey seems offended because he offered 250.00 and my reserve is 325.00 so I blew him off over 75.00. I would not have sold it to him in a private transaction for 325.00 because I think that might be under market by as much as a couple hundred bucks. To solve it I put what I think is a low reserve and listed it on Ebay. He could possibly get it for less than I would have sold it to him privately for.
When you decide to sell your car will you sell it for perhaps a 40% discount to a member here ? These debates are probably a healthy thing... |
Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Charlie, like i said, there are bigger issues than a fan to solve in this world...good luck on the sale and the person who wants it most will go for it, im sure of it.

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
I think Charlie is right. these fans are rarer then I thought.
Today I got to the warehouse to look at clutches for a few people. I have eleven 5 blade fans from that time frame. 2 of the fans have 4 rivets like this one, 6 have have 5 rivets, and 3 others have 4 rivets in a box pattern with a square blade mount. Other than that they all look and measure the same. Does anyone know the reason? Some appear to be earlier, and some are later. I can tell this because of the original clutches that are mosty still attached. Does anyone remember the particular applications? Not all of these came from Chevy, so some have the larger spacing. Since I only had 2 of the rare ones, they especially would not be for sale. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif |

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Looks like $325 would have been a heck of a deal. Charlie's auction ends in a little over an hour and it's at $840 now.

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Ended at over $1600.

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
I checked my stack of fans in the shop and found 2 of these fans with there original clutches. Maybe I can trade them for a big block Camaro? Way to go Charlie https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Congrats to Charlie for sure - - crazy and we dont even understand the differences in the fans except the 1/4 inch!!
My theory still stands for rare parts - "it is he who has the most money". I hope there is money left out there when i begin to unload my stash in the next couple of years :-). |
Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Incredible.
Well now I'm going to look through my pile of used fans. But like you say ED, sure hope there's money left out there. It's pretty amazing what some of this stuff is going for. Rick |
Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Ive noticed several times on ebay, that once a part gets big $$, the next week or two the others crawl out of the woodwork, show up on ebay, and bring considerably less money.
One example: Couple years ago there was a 69 GTO Endura front bumper that was repaired and primed, sold in the $600 range. I thought "HEY!!!, I have a couple of those". The next week there were a handful on ebay, sold for about half the price. It's like anything else. The right part, at the right time, and with more than one person needing it. |
Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Congrats Charlie, I almost pooped my pants when I bid on it at over $1000. Like I said, you win some you lose some. I doubt the guy that bought it needs it. He has been hoarding 67-69 Z/28 parts and has been paying crazy money for almost everything he bids on. He has bought his fair share of loose 69 z/28 cowl tags. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif It seems no matter what that guy outbids everyone. Sometimes that can work against you by entering a real high bid like this guy does. Who knows how high he bid, but I think it was thousands above what he got it for.
Anyways, this thread really got high jacked. All I was doing was looking for parts for my car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif It was in the wrong section anyway, looks like I need to start a new wanted ad. Jeff, all the fans I see in that pic look like the common 3 inch bolt pattern. Whats the sense in placing an ad if someone responds to your ad and then gets a part identified, then doesnt offer it to you and places it on ebay for the part collectors. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gifhttps://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
"Whats the sense in placing an ad if someone responds to your ad and then gets a part identified, then doesnt offer it to you and places it on ebay for the part collectors."
If you had offered more in the first place you probably would have owned it and it never would have hit Ebay. You offered 250.00 but bid over 1000.00 on Ebay ? I don't blame you for wanting to save on a purchase but if there is something I really need I have the best luck when I offer what I am willing to pay. |
Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
I can sympathize with your situation Jonesy, but Charley makes a valid point.
After you said this,.."They are worth what I'm willing to pay and what you will take"...You then place 4 seperate bids, each within the final minutes of the auction starting from $866.00 up to $1076.00. All this after Charley told you he hears $4-600 is the norm. And your first initial offer to him was only $250.00. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif |
Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Really - why would you only offer $250, if your were willing to pay $1000. I am sure Charlie would have let it go for $500 or less early on. Now seems like a absolute steal.
I had no clue that there was a difference - after all that, I only had 1 with the correct spacing, putting it away for my next car when/if get it. Now, if you are still looking - I do have some of the correct balancers. http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/...21BALANCER.jpg Don't lowball me though, these I am familar with. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Charlie never once offered the part to me and ignored all of my PM's. Charlie, did you ever get my PM's??The $250 was a starting point, as I didnt know where Charlie was at. Should I have to price his stuff?? Tell me what you want for it. I never said it was all I would offer. I do remember saying in my PM something about $250 and leaving it open ended with lets make a deal. This is before it ever went on ebay. He was the one who responded to the ad. I thought we could make a deal but it's pretty tough to do that when you get ignored. The next thing I know it's up for sale on ebay.
I did say it's worth what I am willing to pay and what Charlie is willing to sell it for. Its just a shame that we couldnt make a deal. Believe me Jeff, I am willing to pay a fair price for things, all people need to do is give me a price. I already have a balancer. Everyone have a nice day https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Plum it was a pleasure meeting you and seeing that L78 of yours at Carlisle this year. Are you going to have it done for next years show? I would love to see it when it's finished...awesome car! Dave Bates

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Dave it was nice metting you too and thanks for asking about the car I don't think I'll make it next year but that was the orig. plan. Ricks Camaro is most likley going to have another crossram class and he asked me where was my crossram car because he wanted it over at his tent with the others. So I said I'd bring it next year. Right now I'm having to lots of fun with 67. Its great having a car thats not finished and you don't have to worry about getting any scratches or marks on it. Now don't get me wrong I wish it was finished. I threw a bumble bee stripe on it couple weeks ago and put in some orig BB front springs to get the ride height correct. I also just found an orig rear housing coded QF 0502 410 posi with metallic brakes and thats what it came with from the factory. So it will continue to be a work in progress. Just yesterday I spoke to the guy I got it from and he wants to see some pictures. I'm also sending some to the orig owner and he hasen't seen the car in 36 years. Thanks Kerry

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
Jonsey...I got your PM's. You offered 250.00. You do not have to price my stuff for me. I would have sold you the fan if you had offered me what I thought was a fair price but it appeared to me like a low offer. I don't need to tell you what I want for it. You were the one asking for one so I dug around and found one. You should have just offered me what apparently they have been selling for and you wouldn't have been getting mad because I chose to put it on Ebay. Why should I get into a private negotiation with you when there are multiple people wanting it and you try to get it at less than market ? I'm not actively buying parts on Ebay and tracking what they are selling for and I don't want to so I'm not going to spend a bunch of time researching prices in order to give you a price. If you thought 250.00 was a fair price, you made what you thought was the right offer but things just didn't work out and I'm sorry. I'm sure you will be able to find one for less than this one sold for because a few are sure to pop up on Ebay because of this sale.

Re: 1967 z/28 PARTS WANTED
What should I look for?
What makes them different. I am just guessing here. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Someone sent me a few pictures, so I went digging. http://www.broachbuster.com/278f4770.jpg http://www.broachbuster.com/27af4770.jpg Is this one correct? Looks very close to my one above on the right? Same face, same back, same hub measurement. Or what am I missing ??? |
