Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
I find it hard to believe there is anything "Yenko" about this car. The ad is full of bogus info, and all in all it just doesn't add up. The seller claims it's "original matching numbers" but if it's a Yenko installed L-88 how could it be? Also, if it's factory installed, and has only 7500 miles on it, why switch to a '68 alternator mount, paint the block blue, and remove all signs of anything being period correct from the engine?
There's not one hose clamp, bolt, nut, anything under there that looks like it's been there since '69. Even the 427 flagged air cleaner is an obvious modern era dime store unit. By the looks of it, I wouldn't say this 427 was put in by anyone in 1969, let alone Yenko. The obviously falsified "documents" including a crude photocopied, entirely incorrect in every way window sticker and "Yenko stamped" owners manual hardly make it a bona-fide Yenko car. To me, they only add to the questionability of this car and it's owner. If the car was anything, even a "regular" non-Yenko COPO, why would the owner refuse giving out the rear end codes etc? The car looks like it could be a COPO, but again, why not just advertise it as such and get the honest money it would bring? So many things about this car just don't add up. The description claims it's been in "it's current state for many years" which seems to me like an obvious cover for the fact that it was probably recently striped and Yenko badged. To me, the Yenko stripes and emblems are look noticeably "fresher" than the rest of the car. Also, if it was always a Yenko...where are the extra holes in the tail pan for the 427 emblems? Why fill those and drill new ones dead center to put a flat emblem on an angled surface? Where are the fender 427s and why are the fender crests lower than any other I've ever seen? Why paint a "properly stored" 7500 mile car a different color and replace the original stripes with sad looking fatty repros? Why pitch the original Yenko emblems in favor of fresh Taiwan repros, while the rest of the car remains "untouched?" It just doesn't make any sense to me, other than if you consider the car a fake and assume they were added to bring in the big $$$. Best case scenario...the car is a real COPO from who know's where, and back in the 70s during it's racing heyday, it got an L-88 crate added in place of it's L-72, or maybe just aluminum heads added to the original #'s block, which would support the #'s matching claim. Then, sometime after people became more aware of the significance of Yenko cars, and someone read the 1987 MCR interview article, a regular COPO was mistaken as a one off Yenko L-88, was repainted blue and badged as such. But even that is tough to belive judging by the emblems and stripe kit used, but that's about the most believable story I could swallow given what I see in the pics today. Anyone else just plain put off by this guy's ebay story...and blatantly fake documentation? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Anyone seen this before?

Here's a pic of the pass. door jamb on my Camaro that I guess was just part of the "pressing process" at GM when the door was built.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Question, Was it common for the Window Stickers to have typo's as this one shows a Paint code of 19-19, yet the Trim T https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gifag shows the correct 10-10 for Tuxedo Black.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Looking at the auction listing again, he lists the engine code and the serial # but I think he misread the 5 which is probably an S. So TO501 IR 185418846 is probably 18S418846 which would make it a 68 Corvette 427/435 engine. No L88 and no original aluminum heads. Obviously no the original engine to the car.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
I wonder if they looked for a buildsheet. That would tell what it is and what dealer it was shipped to.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
the car in question was indeed an L88..however the engine was installed by Yenko at SUN Chevrolet which Yenko owned part of and where his race hardware was stored...the car was originaly ordered as a COPO L71 tripowered aluminum head engine unlike the others that were 425hp units...the car was also BLACK which Yenko painted BLUE........this is where all the numbers get all jumbled up and not a one of you actualy knows the cars true history...it WAS raced by Don Yenko and they put together 3 of these with L88 engines to where this one is the only survivor........it IS a true YENKO as he built the car or his company did as lets say what Mr.Norm/Grand Spaulding Dodge/Nickey Chevy/Baldwin and a few others did when an order came in for a bigger engine and so on....the FIRST title holder who owned the car since '72 just sold it...for a hefty sum...IT IS THE REAL DEAL...please no arguments.....these are facts...

""No need to even waste the time or expense of running an NICB on this one. It's an obviously fabricated car, with the fabricated story and fabricated docs to go along with it. Either that or it's the only L-88/L-89 RPO'd COPO/Yenko with '68 alternator brackets, special chassis "feathers" and making it even more special is the fact that was delivered to a Yenko address that didn't even exist until 2+ years after the car was built.""

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Blown away...Can you explain these paperwork comments from earlier in this thread ? "
Love the window sticker. McMurray, PA? hum... thought Yenko was in Canonsburg in '69. Found in driver's seat back (thought they went on the window). Black when all others I have seen were red. And "Special chasis feathers" "Yep, so nicely done too! Since when was 'COPO' an RPO #?" " and making it even more special is the fact that was delivered to a Yenko address that didn't even exist until 2+ years after the car was built. Funny...doesn't that Yenko crest on the window sticker look like an emblem that was laid right on the platen glass of a Xerox machine?" "The obviously falsified "documents" including a crude photocopied, entirely incorrect in every way window sticker and "Yenko stamped" owners manual hardly make it a bona-fide Yenko car. Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
If you know the guy and believe him is there a chance that he faked the paperwork to prove the car ? Like he had a real car but didn't think anyone would believe him ? I'm pretty sure these guys are correct about the window sticker being a fake.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
And can you shrink the pic of your car ? Each time you post I think I am going to read something about your car but now I have figured out it is in every post.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
The ad is no longer available for viewing on ebay. Who bought it? Anyone ever get to check it out in person?
Did anyone save any of the pics? Just curious. Lynn |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
sorry about the pic....I removed it....I forget some guys are on dial up.....anyways.....Mike S. owned the car since 72......he bought it from YENKO.....I have seen all the documentations to the car and was told the exact story of how it came to be as i explained....Mike is a hard guy sometimes to understand when he gets excited so my listening skills arent the greatest.......I spoke with him last night to refresh my memory...the problem you all are having with the window sticker is where it was delivered and the engine......thinking its all fake...no its not......mike is the first title holder...remember Yenko never titled the car as it was a RACE car and he was a dealer...they built the 3 in question as racers not to be sold....2 were destroyed and the third, that Mike purchased from Yenko is the only survivor of the 3 that had the L88's installed by YENKO at SUN CHEVY...thats where the detinations get all confused...to hear Mike tell the story instead of coming from me would be a whole lot better except he is of the old school and does NOT have a pc....I wish he did .....Im not here to argue or cause a fight amongst you GhUrus of the faith......Im only trying to clear up the mystery behind the L88 Yenko...it is a great story and very true....as far as the L71 tripower.....well that is a VETTE engine and here is another aguement that will start up...simply put......Yenko was able to order such an engine in that Chevelle...why.....because he wanted that engine for anothercar...maybe because it was cheaper that way..why buy a vette when the Chevelle is a whole lot cheaper...eyebrows are now raising..it is weird but very true....what did that car sell for.....over 300k...and it was well researched before that kind of money was let out...unfortunately mike sold the car without us and......well we didnt get any commission...I can ask Mike if he wants his phone published but that may have to be done privately and to only one.....however I believe there are a few on here that know him and have talked with him...look guys Im not here to butt heads...its like if someone said that my Camaro wasn't a real Z even though its modified...its a real X33 with the protecto plate...so lighten up fellas...

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
You should since I was there during the change over period. Yenko sold the dealership in late 81' and the last of the Yenko Turbo Z's were then finished at Yenko Subaru. One of which my Dad still owns to this day. Yenko Sports Cars was located in the rear of the old Canonsburg Dealership that was by then Saab...BKH

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
then you should know about this car...Mike mentioned that...

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
"Mike purchased from Yenko is the only survivor of the 3 that had the L88's installed by YENKO at SUN CHEVY..."
Look Dude, if the Sun dealership did not exist until 1981 how could Yenko be installing engines there back in 1969? Many of the people here on this site are absolute experts on Don Yenko and his cars, I bet some could even tell you what color his piss was from the different vitamins he liked and what his favorite breakfast cereal was along with the engraving on the spoon he used to eat it with...give it a rest....To make you feel better why dont you put all the info back up and let these guys disect it for you... Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Sad thing is this car may have been raced by Don Yenko. Who knows? Unfortunately, the presentation made it look so bad, one can't really tell. Jeff says he knows the owner who acquired it from Don Yenko in 1972, and I see no reason to doubt him. However, you would think there would be some documentation available that would stand up to scrutiny.
Jeff, I hope you weren't offended by my "WWF diva" comment above. I was just having fun. There is a lot of that on this board. Hell, you can even insert an icon of a gremlin with a "CHARLEY SUCKS" sign. I would really like to see an unbiased critique of the car and all available paperwork. Seems like it is never going to happen, though. Lynn |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Blown away... Brian tells you that Sun came into being in late 81....You answer "negative". Is that because you are believing everything the Chevelle owner told you ? Brian is pretty good with those facts. Do you have any proof of Sun being aropund before 81 ? Newspaper ad or anything other that what the Chevelle owner told you ? How long have you know the Chevelle guy ? How do you explain the address on the paperwork that puts Yenko at a address they didn't move to till a couple years later ?
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Im not offended at all thank you...heres what I'll do...I'll give Mike a call tomorrow if I think about it and get real numbers for all of you.....I'll have him talk slow to me as he has this thick New Jersey whatever and Im in the Chicago area...I'll slowly write down all the info this time to make sure nothing is crossed up...then I will type all this info so all of you can disect it and enjoy your mystery hunt....one more time...the car exsists...who what when or where will all be put to rest after I talk again with Mike...and I dont care what color his piss was or when he took a crap or picked his nose....I offered info...now......why would someone lie about where he bought a car...Mike is not the type to pass off a fake...maybe I got his dates confused thats why Im writing it all down this time so that it can be put to rest......(I won't lose sleep over this)....and by the way.....please lets keep this friendly....I'm too old for this crap.......

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Money is a big motivator for people to fake cars... No other type of 69 Chevelle will bring anywhere near the type of money you say his car sold for. The paperwork he posted was fake. I wish someone had saved the window sticker pic so the bogus parts could be explained to you. This is not a Witch hunt.... There used to be a fellow called Ignitionman on a couple boards that insisted he owned a couple ZL1's and that none of the ZL1's were built at the factory. He made claims every week that were just plain things that he made up. I don't know if this is the same type guy but his paperwork to back up his car condems the car more than just the car with no paperwork might.
