Re: My SCR7 two cents
Sam, Ive been following Hurst and all their cars for years and have never heard or read anything about hurst getting together with YENKO. Are you sure mark didn't just put the wheels and emblem on the duece because he likes the look??? Is there any paperwork showing this? Hurst was real busy with pontiac in 70 with the ssj project, and they were going to do some cars with chrysler but thats it. and they never put hurst wheels on any of their cars except the HEMI UNDER GLASS car. remember they stopped producing hurst mags in 1968. But i'll tell ya, that car is the [censored] with those wheels on it. BEAUTIFUL CAR MARK! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif I PUT THEM ON ALL MY CARS https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Don:
I'm sure Marlin will jump in here with the complete 4-1-1, but I believe Hurst was involved in like the last 25 Deuces or something like that... Edit: I just scammed this from the YENKO page here on the site, with Deuce info provided by Marlin... <font color="blue">"Due to demand, 50 more cars were ordered, this time with 3 new colors replacing 3 old colors, and 10 cars of each color were ordered. Once again, there was an uneven split between cars ordered with the 4-speed, automatic, and power steering options. It is believed this second order of cars were most likely modified with Yenko specifics of stripes, wheels, Dixco hood tach, ect. by Hurst Performance in Detroit, MI."</font> |

Re: My SCR7 two cents
The Hurst connection with the Deuces runs pretty deep, and has been well documented over the years. The cars were definitely not shipped to the Warminster, PA plant, as I have spoken with Campbell and he recalls them shipped to the Detroit location. The Hurst tie-in includes things like the sport mirrors option that are borrowed from the Hurst Olds and Hurst Scramblers, the hood scoop option that is borrowed from Rebel Machine, the special shifter arm from the GTO bench seat cars, etc.... The paperwork backs it up, in fact the last 50 cars actually receive a unique stock number starting with an 'H' for? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
The deuces did not receive the Hurst wheels to our knowledge. However, Marks car is unique in that we believe it had Hurst wheels very early in it's life. This is documented by some pics from the first owners showing the car with them installed, unsure where the pics are today, but suffice to say he will get copies of my copies https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |

found a pic on my computer of a orange Deuce with Hurst wheels date 1972. looks like white painted in wheel relief areas to match white frame and traction bars?
|
Re: My SCR7 two cents
That's the pic I showed Mark, sure looks like Hurst wheels to me. The other pic I have is dated '71, same wheels.
|
Re: My SCR7 two cents
Interesting...looks like the "Bullet" style center caps perhaps. And is that a white '69 style pin on Yenko crest on the fender? That's the first I've seen that on a period pic of a Deuce. I'd like to know more about Hurst and their role in the conversion of the later batch of Deuces. Did the Hurst cars make a stop in Canonsburg, or were they delivered right from GM to Hurst? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
|
Re: My SCR7 two cents
The YENKO crest emblem in that pic is the standard chrome and black like the rest of the deuces, however, it is quite common for the second batch of cars to get their emblems painted completely white - similar to the '69 style, instead of leaving the outer edge chrome like most of the first 125 cars.
From what we have learned, the second order of 50 cars were delivered from Willow Run, MI to the Hurst building in Detroit. After their 'conversions', they were either drop shipped to the appropriate dealer if they were 'on order' by a dealer, or were shipped to Canonsburg. The Hooper deuce was sold out of Yenko, so we know that some of the second order cars came to PA. Other second order cars that were not 'spring' colors were also sold out of Yenko. We looked at the timing of when Hurst would have completed the 'conversions' vs. when Yenko started shipping cars that he had 'converted' and the timing lines up where Yenko would have the room to stash the inventory that was initially shipped to Hurst. |
Re: My SCR7 two cents
So Marlin, am I correct in assuming that many of the "second batch" Deuces went from the GM plant, to Hurst, to the dealer and never actually spent a single night in Canonsburg or were touched by anyone from Yenko Chevrolet?
|
Re: My SCR7 two cents
Yes, that is a definite possibility. Similar to the '67 Yenko Camaro's that were 'converted' by Harrell.

Re: My SCR7 two cents
Marlin,im trying to get a clear pic of the wheels on the deuce. they honestly dont look like hurst wheels to me. the outer edge of the wheel is not the same thickness of a hurst trim ring. they look more like a keystone mag. im really want to learn more about hurst doing the conversion. I cant figure why hurst would get involved putting on a hood tach and some striping. Didnt the deuces all came from the factory with the LT1 and 410's? what else did hurst do to the cars?? From what ive read about yenkos,Don paid kids to stripe the 69's,no? It just dont seem cost effective to me. Is there any hurst or yenko memos on this subject?? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif im just trying to learn. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
|
Re: My SCR7 two cents
They look kind of like Keystones to me too Don
|
Re: My SCR7 two cents
Don, When I heard that at the re-union about Hurst I was puzzled also. Believe me, I don' pretend to know much at all about what Don Yenko did. Maybe the last batch of cars were higher priced because of the extra expense at Hurst. Maybe Hurst got them because Yenko couldn't sell them! Maybe GM asked Hurst to help them market these cars. Maybe they should be COPO deuces with a Hurst badge. Or maybe we should call them the......Jack Douglass deuces. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Re: My SCR7 two cents
After a six pack of Blue Ribbon, no telling what they will look like.

Re: My SCR7 two cents
The late build blue deuce that Dave Belk bought from the original owner in Souix city Ia. that was sold from Kidder Kneffler was sent direct from Hurst to the dealer. Most likley my SF yellow deuce was also on that transport, as Cedar Rapids would be on the way. Dave had transport documents to show it was a direct shipment.
The Hurst equiped emblem on the left rear of the trunk was added by Dave. They sold them at local speed shops all over back"in the day". I almost put one on mine way back then before I even knew of the Hurst connection. Schonye |
Re: My SCR7 two cents
Don & belair62
I believe the wheels are Keystone "Rouges" Very rare wheel to find today because not many sold. Not 100% sure on the spelling. |
Re: My SCR7 two cents
So GM sent them to Hurst for a Yenko fit out? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif and they did not add the Hurst emblem, but was later added by the owner? Why didn't Hurst make it a Hurst deuce? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: My SCR7 two cents
