Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
Thanks everyone for posting the pictures. What is the consensus on the brand of mags on the car in the picture in front of Baldwin Chev? The article does not mention any specifics.
One thing I realized is both this Chevelle and my 69 BM Camaro came out of Statford, CT. I've got to believe these two cars tangled on the street at some point. Joe G, do you recall a '69 Daytona Yellow BM Camaro w/side exhaust and an L-88? |
Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
Talked to Marty Schorr today for about an hour. He remembered the car well and thinks that he still has many of the negatives from the articles he wrote about my car. He also gave me an update on the Motion book he is writing and it sounds like it will certainly be a must have for any muscle car enthusiast. Marty thought it should be out by the Spring. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
Incredible story. I live in Monroe CT, 5 minutes away from Trumbull. Just proves that you never really know what may be left in someone's garage. I grew up in Norwalk which is fairly close to Stratford, and although I was only 7 or 8 at the time this car was new, there were a few older guys on my street that were heavy into muscle cars at the time. They inspired me later on. I am still in touch with one of them and I will ask if he ever went up against either of these cars. Just in my small neighborhood we had (at the same time) a '67 GTO, 2 '70 GTO's, 2 '68 Camaro SS, '66 Nova, '66 Chevelle, '67 Chevelle,'69 396 SS Chevelle, '69 Z/28 (which later belonged to me), '69 Camaro - had a 427 in it but not sure if it was factory.

Come to find out, 2 guy's I met a few yrs ago grew up a few houses away from the Mason's!small world! 1st thing my friend recalled was the stereo system with the funky rear speakers resembling a set of organ pipes, probably long gone by now. [/ QUOTE ] johnK, was looking through all the junk in the car this morning and the pipe organ speakers are still there. You are right, they are funky! Would love to hear some stories about what your friends recall about the car. |
Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
I thought those "organ pipe" speaker covers were basically cheap auto parts store accessories? I seem to remember the lowrider crowd (Bay Area, CA) used to favor those back in the 70s. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!

Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
Just had a nice conversation with Joel Rosen about the car and he certainly remembered it. In fact, he told me a story of when he was racing it in 1968 at NY National Speedway and flipped it over after losing traction with the skinny 7" slicks that were on it. that explains why the roof was replaced on the car. He said he was upside down in the car hanging by the lap belt and John Mahler had to get him out. He wasn't seriously injured, just shaken up but did go to the hospital to make sure he did not break anything. He also told me was that he was pretty sure that it was the only '67 Chevelle he built. He is going to look though his files and see if he has any paperwork from when the car was built.
One final thing he mentioned was Marty Schorr's upcoming book on the Motion history and that he had been working very closely with Marty. He was wondering if there would be demand for a nice hard cover coffee table type book and perhaps an autographed limited edition. I'm sure there would be quite a few site members that would be very interested. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: FIRST BALDWIN MOTION SS 427 CHEVELLE FOUND!!!!
We talk to Marty fairly often, and have helped him with contact info, pictures, etc...from what he's told us, it's gonna be a Motion fan's DREAM. There's even supposed to be a section on SCR6...https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
