Not a vintage photo but one of my buddies father in law just picked this one up, it was delivered yesterday.
65 GTO Black over Red with redlines. Supposed to ride over and check it out on Saturday so I will post more photos after I see it... which I can't wait!!! |
Oh Boy, I can’t wait either.
Black with Red interior ….. nice! Get lots of photos please. Data plate. Engine code. Hopefully PHS for this car. Mileage etc. PS, where’s the stainless wheel opening trim? Thanks |

He was laying out & installing the wheel opening trim when we got there saturday afternoon. - The Red Pinstripe will be going on as well.
It's real and a very solid original car - previous owner bought it in the 80's. Correct as shown WT engine with block dated 2-3 weeks prior to car build. He has ordered the PHS. Am restoration never off the frame. 67k miles - dealer undercoated new still on there. |
Thank you for posting these photos.
This is such a beautiful color combination. I’ll be curious what the PHS shows. Several things going on here. 1966 steering wheel and horn bar. 1966 suspended gas pedal. 1966 speedometer (so true mileage is a question). No door jam light switches No interior rear jam end caps. I wonder if it’s a seat belt delete car? All these items are easy fixes. |
Surf’s up.

Here’s a real nice ‘66 4 door Tempest in Candlelight Cream with Bronze interior and the optional “Custom Wheel Disc Covers”.
Back in the 70’s we would call those motor home hubcaps. Today, I think they are cool 😎. |
Those wheel covers are the coolest!!

I found nicer ones to replace the originals (now outside my garage above) to put on my Barrier Blue/Blue 66 LeMans convert I bought from the original owners family. That car made me a fan of that color combo.

Lots of good information here. Great reference photos!
These engine bay photos show exactly what Factory components were used, such as the rubber fuel hose and the PCV hose (GAS GAS GAS). Also the alignment lines on the top radiator hose and short heater hose. Heavy duty 4 core radiator that was mandatory with the high performance Tri-Power engine. Rubber fuel hose from filter to 4 way brass fuel block which was used on a Pontiac build. Fremont built cars typically used the steel U shaped fuel line around the front carb. The 5178 written on the front carb bowl. Flat top rubber cap to seal the hollow rear carb mounting stud. The 3 way plastic plug wire separator. |

1966 Factory Original

This ‘66 Unrestored Survivor GTO belonged to a late friend of mine.
Built with “Solid Special Paint”, Tiger Gold. The engine bay photo was taken in early 1967. This pic is a great reference as to how they looked New. Starting in 1966 the engine color was now a metallic silver blue. |
----Chris,,, That second pic is really good. Was that from back then? It almost seems too good for an old pic. I moved to the Chicago area in 1976. Hinsdale to be exact. My boss's buddy was Billy Jacobs (RIP) who owned Bill Jacobs Chevrolet so I was down in Joliet many times and don't remember Gordon Pontiac. I wonder if it was already gone?....Bill S

This Reef Turquoise 1966 GTO that I once owned made it into several magazines back in the early 80’s.
It was also used for the box art of a Revell model. I packed all my belongings into the trunk and back seat of this car and headed west from my hometown Springfield, Illinois to the SF Bay Area in 1978. It started out as a 4BBL. Automatic but I had it changed to a Tri-Power 4 speed a few years after living in California. That’s what a lot of us did back in the day. Today, it’s all about Factory Original Survivor cars for me. Chris. |
----Wow! Nice house, Chris! Oh ya, good looking GTO as well.....Bill S

I assumed someone may think that’s my house ….. Nope, darn it. My house would fit inside that guys living room. I knew I had a photo shoot coming up for the ‘66 and my job was to find a location. Me and my wife drove past this house in Los Gatos, Ca. and I stopped to knock on the door. Mr. George Magnet answered and said I was more than welcome to use his driveway in a few weeks. Inside his garage was a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. Super nice gentleman that happened to like my GTO. |
Great story about using his house for a shoot.

Chris, I remember that car well and it was a beauty! Love that color! My brother Larry parked his '66 convertible right next to you at that big Pontiac meet in Santa Clara, 1988 I think was? That was a fun time back then driving our cars to all of those different car shows.

My Old Judge

Heres a couple shots of my 69 Judge in High school in around 1978. It was a Pattern Judge and I thought the previous owner took the Judge plate off the glovebox door.. so I found one in a junkyard and slapped it on mine. Yes I changed the tee handle out for a factory walnut knob and the car was a rare 4 speed ac pattern Judge

‘66 GTO with a Big Cat

Advertising can be dangerous, especially using an irritated Tiger.
The Tiger handler has his leather gloves, but that’s no match for this cat under the hood. |
