Re: Field find
Last time we looked at these same pics and discussing that '67 in the background, Mark Johnson said..."That's the Weber Chevrolet '67 Camaro that I'm pretty sure was one of the Barford Yenkos driven by Gene Rains. I'm sure I'll be corrected by someone if I'm wrong about this. By the way, Weber is still in business to this day..." Launch shot is one I had saved on my confuser and posted here before? Steakley emblem pic posted here previously too, courtesy of Anders. 1968 mylar dealer sticker from Dan Steakley Chevrolet in Temple TX.
The middle of the sticker reads “BEST DEALS IN TEXAS” |
Re: Field find
Sorry for the constant hijacking but here's the Steakley dealer info also a few more of their drag car pics. Pics are of Kelly Chadwick and Bobby Steakley's cars also the last pic later and Grover Rogers w/ their old chassis and a '71 body. Not sure if the floppers are the same Hardy chassis w/ different bodies as w/ Chadwick & Bobby S. both having 69's, you'd think there was at least two? I believe the current pics Rick posted above is a different old dealership and the Steakley operation next door across the side street? Googling the address, w/ Street View you can see the Steakley name on an old billboard across the side street also a Chevy Bowtie on the building behind...it changes to later Google pics w/ different billboard if you go too far along the street.
Wow... congrats!
Sept 4th week - must be one of the last built. Wouldn't it be one of the first ? Sept 4th week '68. Note the body number and the presence of the early 6/7 tach. I wish I had a spare '69 Z to trade. |

When they started production in August of 1969 the body number sequence were reset but the VIN-sequence continued. Initially they were intended to be 1970 year model since the 2nd Gens were delayed. Another fact is that COPO's were not built at all in September 1968, they came later. Jan |
Re: Field find
Plus it has a blue door Vin decal so must be Sept '69...even the half left behind has the 09/69. Is it known if the blue decals appeared exactly with the body # reset date and continuation of '69 model production? Cool car also Steakley connection! ~ Pete |

I wish I had a spare '69 Z to trade. </div></div> Me too !! Awesome find... HO RS...4-speed w/tach and guages and spoilers !! Few COPOs with so many options. Is that the 68 Yenko from England in the background? They would look nice side by side going down the strip!! I think it's a keeper Charlie !! I do have my 67 Z...hmmmmmmm |
Re: Field find
It was not a spoiler car. Second owner added it.
|
Re: Field find
I stand corrected. I'm more of a '67 / '68 guy and didn't realize the Norwood body numbers reset in August of '69. That explains the low body number. I learn something new everyday.

Re: Field find
Very solid, considering. That field was kind to the car; any idea if it stood in the one spot the whole time, or got moved around Charley?

Re: Field find
starrider do you have a Chas Carter emblem on the back of your car ? Holes for one ?
|
Re: Field find
Wow. This is good stuff.
Starrider, does your car have any of the original drive train components? If it has the original BE rear, what is the date? This NCRS data is proving to be very interesting. Phil Woj. |
Re: Field find
No signs of having a Chas Carter emblem. I looked on the inside of the tail panel to see if there were any previously drilled holes and appeared never to have had any. It has original engine and trans but the rearend was replaced. Still working on trying to locate it. I spoke to the owner at the time and he replaced it because the gearing was to low. Unfortunately instead of changing the gears, he swapped it for a 10 bolt.

Re: Field find
Mine was found near Moody Texas. It has been around Moody since it was about a year old with 2800 miles. I guess Moody is near Bonham.
