Re: L78/L71/L72/LS6 143 "blueprint" camshaft interest?
If the lifters have the EDM hole and are American made, I would take a set. No hurry on the cam here. Just would like to have one around in case.

Rob, I just bought a Comp Cams 3863143 replacement cam for my L78. Specs all look to be identical to the GM cam. Part number is 11-106-3. What do you think? Are these not any good? Thanks Mike [/ QUOTE ] Mike, there is nothing wrong with this cam. I have the same one in my 70 L78 Nova and the motor has been together since 1999 and it runs strong. I have had no issues at all. Very good camshaft!! Rich https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Re: L78/L71/L72/LS6 143 "blueprint" camshaft interest?
Here's the latest on the '143' cam...Jim Lerum has done 99% of the legwork here, so a big THANKS needs to go out to him...and since we've had a better than expected response, we got a little help on the price...here's the scoop:
<u>Cam:</u> $150 + $15 s&h Cam will be an Engine Power cam core, which is Made in the USA and supplies cores to all of the big companies, and then Bullet Cams will CNC grind it to exact specs, which not even the original GM/Crane piece can claim. <u>Lifters: </u> standard solid lifters, $70 + $3 s&h EDM solid lifters, $165 + $3 s&H Lifters are Johnson lifters, which have been around forever, and are also Made in the USA. Again, for EDM lifters, PM me for price We hope to start shipping these in around 10 days, and will get them out to the priority guys first...again, if you need a cam/lifters ASAP, please drop me a PM and check the list @ the beginning of the thread as I'll make a notation beside your name. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For those of you comfortable with PayPal, you can use the button below, just *be sure* and make a note in the comments section of the transaction exactly what you're paying for [cam and/or lifters] along with your physical shipping address & contact number: <form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post"> <p align="center"> <input type="image" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but04.gif" border="0" name="I2" alt="Make payments with PayPal - it's fast, free and secure!" align="absmiddle" width="62" height="31"><input type="hidden" name="business" value="[email protected]"><input type="hidden" name="item_name" value="sYc and Supercar Registry"><input type="hidden" name="item_number" value="Support for the club, bulletin board, and Supercar Reunion!"><input type="hidden" name="image_url" value="https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/supercarlogo.gif"><input type="hidden" name="return" value="https://www.yenko.net/donation.htm"><input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="USD"><input type="hidden" name="no_note" value="1"><input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_xclick"> </form> For those of you who prefer snail mail, you can simply send it to the club, and I'll take it from there...but as above, include a note stating *exactly* what you're paying for [cam and/or lifters] along with your physical shipping address & contact number. sYc POB 375 Alton, MO 65606 |

Re: L78/L71/L72/LS6 143 "blueprint" camshaft interest?
Hey, isn't Bullet Cams the remnants of the old Ultradyne Cam company? Ultradyne really had their act together and were responsible for some fast running motors! I used to have a little '64 Chevy II with a ZZ4 350 GM crate engine, where the stock hydraulic roller was junked and replaced with an Ultradyne solid roller (.560-.600 lift) and that little car would run 11.70's. Anyway, this sounds like a good deal for everyone and considering the quality (or lack of) of today's oils, the EDM option may be agood idea. I used EDM'ed lifters during my last solid cam build and have had no flat cam issues. Knock on wood!

Re: L78/L71/L72/LS6 143 "blueprint" camshaft interest?
Thanks a ton guys! Payment sent. This will make my rebuild (when I get there) much easier.
Just of note, after I clicked on the Paypal link, I did not notice a section for "comments" as is often seen on a Paypal payment. It just asks you to enter a dollar amount. Maybe I'm just overtired/worked at the moment and missed a link/button for it, but I don't think I missed it. I guess it's simple enough to figure out what someone ordered based on the amount paid. |

Also, I updated the pricing post above, with the EDM lifter info...our cost is $165 + $3 s&h. |

Re: L78/L71/L72/LS6 143 "blueprint" camshaft interest?
What are EDM lifters? Thanks, Phil.
|
Re: L78/L71/L72/LS6 143 "blueprint" camshaft interest?
EDM lifters have a small micro hole on the face of the lifter. It lubes the lobe with oil as the lifter runs across the face of it. It's been used very successfully to extend the life of camshafts, especially those that run high spring pressure.

And as of now, I think we're gonna have a cut-off date of around next Wednesday (4/29) on this "group buy"...since there's power in numbers, we're saving somewhere around $40/cam, $20/solids and $30/edm...we'll more than likely be able to get someone a cam or two down the road, but I'd say the price will be quite a bit higher. |

Re: L78/L71/L72/LS6 143 "blueprint" camshaft interest?
If that is what it takes to make Chevrolet's continue to rule than I wouldn't imagine doing it any differently.
For those of you that think this is bad timing and are in an economic freeze, we can revisit it in 6 months or a year and see if we can set up another group deal. I would like nothing better than to think we have some future business down the road that will accommodate people in need. Jim |

thanks Rob and Jim.I appreciate you guys stepping up to the plate with bullet Cams and gettin er done.chris [/ QUOTE ] Thanks guys! It's intended to do as the license plate from long ago said *****USA-1*****. In a nut shell, it will keep our cars running super strong on American made products built by our fellow country men. I feel you have invested in quality pieces that are very reputable. From cam cores to the Johnson lifters, it's good stuff. When you get your product in the mail in 10 days or so, please open the packages and inspect what you have. I just received one of the soon to be few remaining L-88 crane camshaft that was bought for a fellow Canadian and it was broke in 1/2 from poor shipping and handling practices. I truely want this to be good for everyone! Jim |
