Yeah Pete, you got the right idea. Sumthin' like the 4 R's of learnin':

1. Readin'
2. Riten'
3. 'Rithmetic
4. Reviewin' (broach marks)

Plus our minds were full of more important things...like 40 cents a gallon gas powered toys and girls, girls, girls!!!.
Come to think of it, not much has changed?. Sure the toys and gas are more expensive now but I'm still hooked on 'the original crack'...certainly far superior to the stuff today's kids are into!.

It's funny, but I remember a high dollar restored 409 car on ebay a while back. IT had a fresh deck pad with the VIN on it. The owner had obviously sent the block out to one of those guys who provides a rebroaching and stamping service. The broach marks were straight just like a small block or MKIV. Here the guy paid big bucks to have it appear legit by a "professional", when all it did was leave a big footprint that it was a fake! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

There's some pretty good pics,(one under a cover with snow),& text of a 1964 Black/Red 409,original owner,featured on page 52 of February HMM.
I think his name was Gordon Jassman..from Spokane.

There appears to be a patch panel on the firewall where an airconditioning plenum may have been.

[/ QUOTE ]

Verne,
It does look like a panel in the pics, but it is just an optical illusion. The original firewall with factory dimples are reflecting light.

The car is a Black Coupe with a Red and White Hounds Tooth interior a Cast Iron T-10 4 speed and a posi rear.

The car came out of the Tom Deitz collection.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I've known Tom since '82 and he knows right cars from wrong cars. He is a trustworthy friend.

Just for the heck of it, here's a bogus, restamped '62 409 pad. There are EIGHT individual clues on this pad that it's not right (not counting the deck surface).
