I read very slowly but at least I don't comprehend anything.

I finished the 0W-20 M1 oil change on the Z06 yesterday and then took it for a test drive. The oil pressure was around 30psi at idle and I believe over 60 at 4k with the engine warm and ambient temp. around 40 degrees. Now, I don't have a clue what that means but I'm sure a more intelligent
person could draw some type of conclusion.

Shortly after rebuilding my LS6 in January of 2006, I contacted the CompCams which provided the flat tappet hydraulic bump stick for my engine. I, like a lot of people, heard horror stories about the new oil back then. The CompCams tech told me that just about all the cam failures they've seen happened at break-in. He couldn't recall anyone ruining a flat tappet cam after break-in. I don't know if that's true now or among all cam manufacturers but it's certainly true with my cam. I broke in the engine using Castrol 20w-40w for the first 3k,.changing the oil twice during that time. Since then, with about 10k more mileage on the car, I've used 15w-50 Mobil One. No problems with the cam and the engine doesn't burn any oil. I questioned Mobil 1 about the amount of ZDDP in their oils and received the following response in April of last year.

"Mobil1 MX4T 10W40 and Mobil1 V-TWIN 20W50 motorcycle motor oils, Mobil1
15W50 Extended performance and Mobil1 5W40 diesel motor oils contains
the higher levels of zinc and phosphorous for your cams. The new energy
conserving motor oils do have reduced levels of zinc/phos however, they
typically do not have any adverse effects on cams unless you are
running
higher valve spring pressures. I would suggest you stick with the
product listed above if you are concerned about the phos/zinc issues."

We lost a 143 repro cam in our Y-Nova...thing had a funny sound and wouldn't smooth out, so the old man decided it needed a 1/4 mile tune up. He smoothed it right out, 'cause the engine locked up and he coasted back into town with a dead bullet! It was uggggggly...had to drive out a few lifters, jimmied up the oil pump shaft, chunks of cam/lifter everywhere inside. That cam was correctly broken in on the dyno, and ran flawlessly for 2 years, and pushed our Y-Camaro to mid-12s right before being put into the Nova...whether the manufacturers wanna admit it or not, the oil and cam blanks share the blame.

The "diesel oils" have also been affected recently. The API-spec "CI-4" diesel oil (which has a very high level of ZDDP) has been around for a long time (Shell Rotella, Mobil Delvac, etc.). However, the new EPA Tier II Bin 5 diesel emission requirements that go into effect next year require the use of catalytic converters and particulate traps, which are "poisoned" by the high level of ZDDP in the CI-4 diesel oil, so there's a NEW diesel oil, API spec "CJ-4", with a much-reduced level of ZDDP, intended for use with the new low-sulfur diesel fuels in the 2008 Tier II-regulated diesel engines.

CI-4 diesel oil offers better protection for sliding elements than the new ZDDP-reduced CJ-4 diesel oil; diesel oil used to be diesel oil, but now there are two DIFFERENT diesel oils.

Great info, John...someone told me the diesel oils were gonna take a hit, but I could never pin it down.
