Re: New trim tags on Ebay
It's kind of sad really that in our society today there are people like this jerk that have no morals or integrity, they'll do anything for the almighty buck. This guy is really the scum of the earth and I hope that he meets the front end of a greyhound bus really soon!

Re: New trim tags on Ebay
Blank trim tags and Protect-o-Plates are perfectly legal. Even the stamping of them is legal. The removal of the trim tag on the car and replacing it is perfectly legal.
This is very unfortunate for the car hobby. Sure many guys on this board could spot a fraudulant trim tag, but what about someone that is new to cars. These are the "pigeons" that many of these replacement trim tags will fool. I have heard of some people having their body media blasted and the blaster destroyed the trim tag. That does happen. Now lets look at the guy selling blank VIN tags. My understanding, is that be they blank or stamped they are illegal to sell. The fact that he will stamp them (insert with a real vin) is very very illegal. Like Verne Frantz said how this guy stays out of jail is a mystery. |
Re: New trim tags on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...=ADME:B:EF:US:2 [/ QUOTE ] so someone bought this for $1000.00 to turn his 6cyl camaro into a Z28 and its legal? It just dosent seem right. I can buy a tag for my 65 malibu have code "4FM" punched in and claim it as a Z16 to some unsuspecting uneducated buyer. It is just not right! I know we have too many laws but this is criminal!! |

[/ QUOTE ] This guy is not only selling brand new trim tags and stamping them too if you wish, he is also selling the correct rivits to mount them. This is just plain fraud in my opinion and I just don't understand why it's not against the law. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/69-70...QQcmdZViewItem Personally I think they should have hung this guy right next to Sadam...... world would be a better place! |
Re: New trim tags on Ebay
I totally AGREE it is fraud, plain and simple. The trouble is the guy peddling these tags is the one that WILL NOT get into trouble. It is the seller of a car WITH the FAKE tag on it that will be in leg irons and breaking rocks for ten years. Though the seller does deserve the punishment.

Re: New trim tags on Ebay
Jim is correct. The laws do not punish the guys selling these things (VINs yes - other items, no).
It's as though our entire hobby needs to have an "Ethics Board" that could influence lawmakers. I wish I could be of more help to guys on this site (or wherever) who own later '60s cars, but all my information pertains to '58-'64 "muscle barges". Honest people in this hobby need HELP from someone who has taken the time to compile the necessary information to either sanction the validity of a car of issue a warning. Who ever would have thought that the authenticity of these cars which we love from our memories would be so valuable today, and so difficult to document as "real"???? The values and desirability of these cars have spawned an underground level of profiteers who are willing to provide the very items we all look for to authenticate the legitimacy of these cars. Well,I could go on and on about my feelings about this subject. Enough for now. Verne |
