I found it funny that guys can take a cruddy tailer tire and get full credit while the restored class guys hunt dated wheels, jacks, NOS spare etc. I am hot bashing the show, but this was a Camaro only deal and you would think the judges would be prepared...BKH

Arons/Berger SS/E superstocker........ The judges deducted for the car not having a spare tire https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif and told us we would need that, or tools, or something even a trailer spare to get the points!.........I just told the judges I would not compromise the restortion for a few points.

The same judges told Fran Roberts that his COPO was excellent, but needed to clean up the overspray on the manifolds etc...

Re: Michigan Camaro Club show this weekend

Brian,
You can only believe it when you see it first-hand. In past years, the judges for that show were "Corvette club folks" and weren't terribly knowledgeable on the Camaro. I recall taking 'Ol Yella, my Daytona Yellow '69 RS Z/28, and was docked points for 'tire condition' on my original Wide Tread GT's...I guess they prefer shiny new re-pops. They got me for the engine overspray, too ('Vette folks should at least know that). And don't forget your fire extinguisher is one bonus point! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif

How did you like the length of the awards presentation...hence the name "Super long Fest"? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif
Jeff Betz was responsible for that 'very appropriate' title. He would kid about everyone getting an award.

Class #132:
<font color="blue">"1969 Camaro, original restored, convertible, rally sport with power steering, power brakes and rally wheels only"...one car in the class...winner is... </font>

Did you take any pics at the show? I would like to see the cars you took plus others you viewed as nice cars.

Thanx,
Rich

Re: Michigan Camaro Club show this weekend

IMO, this is why most shows should shy away from judging. It is very hard to get enough qualified judges, and when you do, when done correctly, can be very time consuming. Leave the judging to the larger shows who have the resources to do it right, such as Vettefest,Carlisle, Nova Nats, etc.

I was faced with this for SCR, and decided the best course of action was to not judge the cars. Seems to have been the right decision, as not only has it worked for the SCR, but other shows have copied the idea.

Tom,
I agree. Plenty of time to view cars and share stories without having to deal with judges' opinions.

"Leave the judging to the larger shows who have the resources to do it right, such as Vettefest,Carlisle, Nova Nats, etc." EXACTLY!!!

Many of us have been the 'Judged Show' route for years, and something I hear more every day; "It's much more enjoyable to kick back and swap tales with others than to argue/explain to judges who know more about YOUR car than you do!" Then, there's the jealousy it creates between competitors. Just not worth it for a Plaque or Trophy.

Cruise-ins, Show 'n Shines and Reunions for me!

Tom.........In my own personal opinion.......I agree with you 100%.....Most "Real" car guy's know what they have, whether is real or not and how nice it is , or isn't.......I don't think that in the real world we should base the "Pleasure" of owning and playing with our big Toy's on somebody else's opinion (sometimes....uneducated) of what they think of our "Toy's"
At the end of the day.......doe's it really matter

-----I was on 94 heading east yesterday and spotted two late-model Camaro in a space of about three miles stopped by Michigans finest, and several other Camaros heading west. I was coming back from Indy as we were invited to the Indianapolis Concours. There were three Motion Corvettes there but I had no camera. Day passed by so quickly for us that I only had a chance to talk to one of the owners. His car was a yellow pearl 71 or 72 Motion Maco. I believe he said that Joel had signed off on it. The other two were red (one 69 and one 73).....Bill S

A couple of sYc member's car. I know Rayburn Pennington from Poplar Bluff, MO was there with a Motion Vette, and I would venture a guess Dan McMichael from Indy was there with a Motion car or two.

I attended last year with my DH funny car, a nice show. And the best part was eating at Dan's resturant afterwards.
