More than likely, there were several people waiting until the last possible second to bid on that auction, just as you were. All of you probably had "high speed" internet. Ebay is habitually slow, and their system is frequently overburdoned, especially at peak times (0900, 1630, 1830 etc), so the long and short is that is was probably a case of too many people attempting to bid at the last second, IMO,
