The original paint cars I've come across, the lower latch was painted body color, but later had the spatter over them for the most part. dave [/ QUOTE ] Same here |

I should have been more specific in my earlier post - on Norwood cars, both the bolted-on deck lid latch (on the body) and the bolted-on deck lid striker (on the lid) were installed before paint. The striker is body color, and the latch is body color and spatter paint. Those were the only separate "hardware" items installed prior to paint (other than the torsion rods - everything else was welded). Photo attached of my original 02D Norwood latch.

So whats the verdict on the correct color? Aqua and black or black and grey

Re: 69 trunk "splatter" paint process..and floor p
Mine is aqua and black, but a very light aqua that could easily be mistaken for grey. I would take a photo, but these digital photos aren't very good about reproducing subtle shades.
On another note, I noticed John's trunk weatherstrip is "seamed" almost dead center. Mine was offset about a foot and a half to the driver's side and I have observed several other originals to be the same. I don't know that it matters much, just curious. Lynn |
Re: 69 trunk "splatter" paint process..and floor p
Most untouched original 69 trunk weatherstrips have the seam off-center. There is also usually alot of yellow glue slopped out of the channel and onto the trunk lip, both inside and outside of the weatherstrip. Of course this all depends on who put the weatherstrip in at the factory, but from observation, it seems like it was rarely a process that was given alot of time and precision.

Joe:
I was thinking the same thing. Kind of like the post a couple of weeks ago about the engine painter who usually didn't even lose his place in the book he was reading while painting. Lynn |
