Both cars were Gibb ordered cars. The #52 car was a LeMans blue three speed auto car, which was sold without the motor and destroyed [/ QUOTE ] Cool story Jeff...When and why was this #52 car sold without the motor and destroyed? |
Re: #33 - The Australian ZL-1
Classic SuperCar death story. Jane raced the car a little. Decided that he wanted to keep the engine. Sold it with a small block. New, youthful owner wrapped it around a tree. Car sat for a while, several deals to buy it were never consummated, so it went to the junk heap. They think it was crushed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

Re: #33 - The Australian ZL-1
Jeff,
You do get around! That is a neat story, I think a trip back to LaHarpe would be fine for this car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |
Re: #33 - The Australian ZL-1
Jeff one of the cars (if not both) were sucessfully drag raced and there are some good photos in Rodsport showing them. Think Moffatt also drag raced the Boss at the same meet once.
Only talked to Bob once and he was very informative about the car. (give a multi millionaire a gift of something he wants, and it gets through the barriers) and he indicated that Chevrolet had something to do with buying the cars. Moffatt had one of the "factory" Boss cars at this time and Bob needed something to level the playing field. Some terrific photos in the Motor Racing annuals of that era. Think it was the only ZL-1 to circuit race (Yenkos Daytona ZL-1 was a 302 car with a heart transplant (so I have read ). Nice photos. |
