Re: Color change opinions

I'm going to take a different viewpoint on this one. Keep in mind that many members of this board (including myself) are purists and tend to favor cars that are restored to original or very close to original. I've seen this topic debated many times and I watch the auctions, classifieds and many deals that go through on classic muscle cars. A popular car in it's original popular color is going to bring the most money. The same car in a less popular color (I didn't say ugly) is going to go for less money and be more difficult to sell. What's interesting, is when you take that car such as yours and then paint it a desirable color, I've seen countless examples sell faster and for more money that it's original ugly (ok, I said it) color. Just think about when you walk by a beautiful car that is an ugly color and you say to yourself, "If it was only red (or black or blue or whatever) then it would be great." Or you hear, "Too bad it's brown." Recently, a collector friend of mine sold his Butternut Yellow '68 SS396 Chevelle and it took forever even though that car was nice. The reason? Most buyers just didn't want that color and passed. If you want to keep the car original, then the answer is easy. But if you want to keep it, sell it to the widest possible market, or just plain like a certain color that was availble that year, then paint it the color you like. Ok, I'm off my soapbox.

I've been struggling with the same question. My W30 is/was originally Sherwood green and was repainted sometime in the past into pearl white. (yuk) The debate has been all original or possibly black/gold stripes.

Since I don't plan to ever sell it, and even if I did black would probably sell easier, that is the way I am leaning.

I think it will look positively evil with the XT's and poverty caps. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

I'm leaning towards yellow at this point. But if I did that I would have to take the Cragers off and put Rally IIs back on it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif.

Thanks for all the input,

Jason
