It’s a standard deck block. It is an LA built car
|
That's a LOT of cubes to get out of a standard block.
As I read how it was built, I figured it was an LA car. When I was looking for mine and since too, it seems the cars with those options were built more frequently in LA. Mine is an LA '67 ss/rs with deluxe interior, folding rear seat, console powerglide, speed minder and wood wheel options. |
You might want to ponder the dilemma of the bolts over stock siamese intake ports. Original BBC heads and intakes had the bolts. I used a C454 decades ago and it required the bolts. Most high flow aftermarket heads do not have those bolt provisions. If you install the C454 on a set of later heads, you'll most likely encounter a massive vacuum leak. You could weld up the holes and grind the intake to match, but it's quite a bit of work. Here's a link to an article I wrote for Summit Racing on that topic:
https://www.onallcylinders.com/2022/...n-a-1970-nova/ You can see more on my Nova build elsewhere on this site. It's a 565 cubic inch, short deck combination with Brodix BB3 Xtra heads. FYI, the Brodix dual plane is the only intake that fits under a flat hood and can fit aftermarket heads without the extra bolt hole. But it is for 4150 series carbs only. In my experience, 4500 Dominators can be a pain in the ass on a street driven car…:) |
Thank you!!! I was wondering how those extra bolt holes were going to affect this build, and you answered all those questions.
The dart 335 heads on the 540 don’t have those extra holes. I’ve been contemplating the hv2016 Brodix also. Appreciate all the info Matt |
Glad I could help...

I'm in love with that car.

Great looking 67, rarely see a clean Royal Plum! I have a big block in a 67 Camaro with an original Edelbrock Torker, yes the "crooked" plenum opening and yes it's a single plane but it's not very tall. I have a fly eye air cleaner on it and it won't fit under the stock hood. I have a stinger hood on it, the air cleaner is just barely showing when you look in the scoop opening. May fit with a decent drop base and a short filter.

Nice car! Great colour and stance!!
