Wow....glad she's okay. That's horrible that she lost her house.

A friend recently retired and built a home in Naples 14 months ago. Looks like major destruction, but won't know the extent because no power or communication. He and his wife are in Maryland now.
|
I'm sure the full extent of the destruction won't be fully assessed for a couple more days, but there will be thousands of homes that are uninhabitable for an extended time. Unimaginable to see where they will be housed, when the entire peninsula has been so devastated.
And the destruction continues. It would have been so much better for Ian to stay inland and weaken. Now that it has gained fuel from the Atlantic, Georgia, So Carolina and areas inland from them will be hit harder and deal with storm surge as well. We have a 3 week reservation to a VRBO on Pine Island in Feb. Pine Island was the second barrier island to take a direct hit. It was an apartment on the ground floor of a 2 level, flood zone, home. Any damage to property and updates built on the ground usually isn't covered by insurance, so we aren't expecting the flood damage to be repaired by February. I told my wife that IF they are able to recover and make it safe, we could go down and volunteer to help with lingering cleanup. |
30 years ago this month, my wife and I witnessed the destruction wrought by Hurricane Andrew over on the east coast of Florida. Very difficult to fathom that level of destruction without seeing it first hand.

Oh no! I forgot that they built in Naples. I pray it is not too bad as they have worked so hard to get where they were finally able to sit back and relax. |
My wife showed me a picture on the internet this morning, of the rear half of an orange Plymouth Superbird upside down, resting on the roof and the top of the rear wing  Hope the owner has good insurance. And my youngest brother has contracted to build a house about 20 miles SE of Fort Myers :confused2:
EDIT: Superbird picture now here: https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?t=173224 |

After Andrew, Florida made massive changes to it's building codes. But the worst I've ever seen was Katrina. |
