To me, it actually makes sense for the Ford cars to bring more than the Chevy competitors (Boss vs Z) bc at least with the Ford you have some assurance that the car you’re buying is actually a REAL car due to the Marti Reports. It’s actually pretty sad that all these fake cars are being bought as real.

The LS6 cars didn’t do so great at Mecum and I probably know why. It’s because there were about 50 of them it seemed and my guess is by far most of them were fake and brought the value down of the real ones.

You don’t see a bunch of fake Boss 302 and 429 cars and Shelbys.

I 100% agree it’s much harder if not impossible to fake a mustang there’s so much documentation on them and numbers

Where is this vin plate ? The one on the door, that states it's NOT to be used to title the car ? I've worked on/rebuilt 9 first gen Mustangs now and haven't found a real vin tag on any of them. The vin stamp on the left apron is the only other identifier I've found and up here, many of those are rusted away. The ones that were still viable, I incorporated into the replacement aprons.

68 and up have them on the dash like other makes in addition to the fender aprons.

Thanks, I think there were a couple newer than '67 that needed major front structure replacement, but, apparently, that was too long ago to recall detail...:rolleyes2:

Stanger I DID see quite a few nice classics that didn't go as high as I though. Early Mustangs and some baby Birds are a few.

The Baby Bird market has been down for the last couple of years - about 50% off. You can buy what used to cost $70K for $35K. The only model that still retains it's high value is the "F" code supercharged model and they made very few of them. One of the few collector cars that is not enjoying the super high prices of late.

I would just like to do a nice hot-rod driver for my wife. Was thinking a nice '64/'65 Falcon, but wit these baby-birds being this inexpensive might do that instead. Nice lil' 347 maybe with a Paxton....

QUESTION for you guys:

Do you feel, on average, that Mecum and Bj get a higher quality of car then the norm that one would find "shopping"?

I know that is sorta a vague statement as sure there are GREAT cars that sell without the help of these auction houses. Just thinking the average like these baby-'Birds or say 64.5-66 Mustangs.

And the Bob Hirohata Merc went for $1.95MM I believe. I'm just glad that it's still around and looks as good as ever.

I think it’s just auctions in general. Go on Hemmings or auto trader any selling site and if there’s 50 on a certain model for sale. 20 are auctions maybe one or two private sellers and the rest dealers.

AMEN to that, Rich! About the only place to find a car for sale by the actual owner is on collector car websites such as sYc, or word of mouth.
