Cool the car still exists! Australia must be the place where old road test muscle cars go to get a new lease on life. The Buccaneer Red 1973 Super Duty 455 Trans Am that made the rounds in the mags in May 1973 is now being restored over there (under there?) too.

No Norwood Z/28s are known to have been built with the '68 rear stripe layout.

WOW!
Amazing that this Z/28 is still around and appreciated for how historic it was- How many Z/28s were sold by that cover car feature in Hot Rod- "Wide-Awake Sleeper" for sure. My old Z was super early build. I bought in Dec. of '80 from original owner. He bought it locally in Oct. of '68. He was looking at SS396 Camaro in summer of 1968, but salesman told him to wait a few months for the '69 Z/28 because that 302 was more a potent package. I'll dig up some photos of the rear view, it was LA build car. I added front rear spoilers back then. HS parking lot- '83ish. |
Here is LA 09B assembled One owner 69 Z Lemans Blue with the 68 style stripes...

The other LA Norwood paint difference I have noticed is the wiper cowl grille stripes -- Norwood they are about 1/4" to the rear of the recess and at LA they follow the recess...
the same 09B LA car - https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw...-no?authuser=0 Original wiper grille off of the Black RS/Z 04C car... the wiper cowl off of my old 10D norwood car is exactly the same. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw...-no?authuser=0 I do not believe I have seen an exception to this on any original paint car LA or NOR... someone please correct me if they know any different. |

Another Van Nuys anomaly is rear striping in the vinyl top configuration. This is technically correct [but non-normative] as there is an error in the AIM dimensioning. Jon Mello has observed this on several original paint cars.
In addition, there is a vintage Hurst ad featuring a '68 Z/28 with the vt striping. |
