If you are going to get the paint corrected...pay up and get it done right. I took one of my 993's to the best shop in town and they burned a small 2 inch spot on the door of my 30,000 mile original paint car. They paid me to have it repainted, but the car was never the same. I am very afraid of letting anyone touch my original paint cars now and would never take it to anyone but the best shop that will stand behind any damage that might occur.

----Based on your description the car could bring somewhere around $30,000, maybe a bit more. I agree with working the paint and feel that the $3000 figure could be correct. Hope this helps......Bill S

I agree with those who suggest having the paint detailed and going to the trouble and expense of finding the best person available. I had a black '57 Chevy that was painted OK and the previous owner paid a really good painter I knew $1500 to wet sand and buff the car. It turned out very nice for that particular car.

You know, I think the question is bigger than just "If I spend $1k will I get $3k more?" I think its about putting the car on right side of a decision to buy. I know there's a number of people who will look at a car (esp Corvettes) and if they think it might need paint, its an automatic "no", because the potential cost and trouble isn't worth the risk. If you can display the car with nice or at least acceptable paint, their decision to say "yes" to the buy is much easier. They're probably not going to offer you $1k or $3k less, they're just going to pass.
