----And, Sam,,, Smog was an option back then. Even in California its my understanding that you didn't have to order it until the calendar year of 1966. My 67 El Camino had to have it (and its still there but gutted) as it was ordered later in the year....Bill S

I would say he had that plate refinished for a look-a-like. The new issue black plates are smaller.

I should have nailed it down better for you, Mark. What ever the reason may be, you can tell a new black plate a mile away.
