You see vapor blasting associated with motorcycle resto shops for some reason.....
Results are amazing - vapor blasting on brass and copper is WOW! I used it a lot on the ferrari restoration - uses ultra fine media, chemical agent and water under pressure. We did alt cases, trans cases and believe this is the ticket. Tumbling works well also, but you get the media marks in the metal which gives that unique sheen. Remember that on 4 sp cases, it seems that all the alum seem to be of different grade, thus the finish on each is a little different. |
Jim, your muncie case looks great....

I've seen alot of the re-skinning and tumbling and wheelbrater Muncie castings and they all look nice, but when you put them side by side with an NOS Muncie trans or NOS Muncie castings they're different colors and texture/smoothness...
As far as the black coating on the bolts goes, not all the bolts holding a Muncie together have the black coating, it depends on the supplier at that period in time... In the early years most bolts were natural, later on they used some coated bolts... I have an NOS 1969 M-21 only the front bearing retainer bolts are coated... So to sum things up as nice as all this looks, its getting close to being over restored... Hope this helps... Crash |
