In 1967, that engine would have only been in a convertible, hardtop or El camino. It would not have been in a sedan or sport coupe.

Re: How can I find a specific car with only the VIN?

NCRS just confirmed the shipping data information on this 1967 Chevelle SS with vin # 138177Z151822:

Production Date: 6/16/67
Dealer Zone: #42
Dealer Code: #76
Dealer Name: Camp Chevrolet, Inc.
Dealer Location: Spokane, Washington

I originally bought the L78 block in Montana, only a couple states over from where the car was originally sold. Sure would like to find the car and reunite it with its original motor. Any further ideas, help or experience would be appreciated.

Contact Bill Gould, autoancestry.com or [email protected], he has provided some extremely helpful research at very reasonable rates for the Corvette enthusiasts.

Obviously any of the orphan sites that exist would be a good option also.

Very cool!

I would still like to reunite this L78 motor with the 1967 Chevelle SS (Sport Coupe) VIN # 138177Z151822 that it was originally born with.

Will the NCRS confirm if that shipping data has already been requested by another party ?

I like how you're thinking! Don't know if they can answer that, but I'll ask.

I asked em about this many years ago,and was told no.They said they will not reveal prior inquiries to a specific VIN.
Privacy issues.

Good thinking is right!
NCRS should revisit this decision as simply telling you info's been requested for the same Vin without revealing private details would help.
:beers:
