Re: Shipping Parts
I charge $80 for a pair of SBC head on average and $120 for BBC cast iron heads. A complete Muncie 4 speed is $80 but I usually lose money and figure I get more bidders with the cheaper shipping price.

Re: Shipping Parts
I'm a supply chain management professional working for a top-3 global SCM firm. While we all have these small anecdotal cases of success, global trends lean toward FedEx over UPS and other third party carriers. My firm has strategic partnerships with both carriers for our logistics, small parcel yielding accounts. UPS lacks in customer service where FedEx is much more developed. While I suggest researching local level reps and discounts accordingly, I have seen the best success with FedEx at the corporate and consumer level over others.

Re: Shipping Parts
Thanks for all the suggestions, pictures and information. I had planned to build wooden crates for the heads but now feel comfortable with properly prepared cardboard exterior packaging.

Re: Shipping Parts
I ship a lot of Big Block Ford "hard parts" all Cobra Jet Heads are rolled in cardboard nothing more nothing less. Make caps for the ends and when they are tossed around will serve as the initial point of contact and distribute the load. Never had an issue yet. Used to make aluminum sides insulation lined crates etc waste of money and energy. The key is tight tight tight. Hard parts shift in boxes. I cut them down if needed for some items. Also agree with Fedex and was with UPS for 10 yrs prior. Not a big operation but I do about 600 per month in freight cost.

Re: Shipping Parts
Tommy,
My pleasure. I am always happy to help out when I can. I agree with the tape statement. I get the Scotch packing tape at Costco. It goes on sale once a year(this month) and I try to stock up for the whole year or close to it. Jason |

Re: Shipping Parts
I shipped a muncie trans out to be rebuilt to California. They guy who rebuilt it for me told me to go to Kmart to get a "Tuff Box". It's a black plastic container with a plastic yellow top. I've seen them at Walmart and Home Depot too. Works well and the top can be held down with zip ties.
