Re: 12 bolt axles

Turbo, you said you didn't want to "lose" the original 12 bolt, correct? So are you getting another rear for the car? IF you are, I would just get a 9" or Dana. BUT if your stuck on a 12 bolt, there are plenty of makers to use. BUT make sure you tell them it for a STREETCAR that will see SOME strip time.

In my '69 Nova, I've been running the stock 12 and axles for a while. Bet you I have 150 hits on them as we speak. BUT mine is a 550Hp, M21/'glide with brake deal that ALWAYS has 9" slick on the car. With the 4 speed, I put the front wheels about 26" in the air. Car run 10.40's N/a and there is some spray, but never off the line.

Just some food for thought.

Thanks! That is what I explained mostly a street car, but some strip time. I would like to change the rear end maybe next year, but don't trust the stock axles until I get to that point.

Re: 12 bolt axles

I don't see any reason to switch from a 12 bolt to a 9" or a Dana. They are plenty strong for a street/strip car if it's built right.

For example, I have a friend with a 1970 Chevelle (all steel but the hood)with a BBC 427, T-400 and a 12 bolt. He has Strange axles, stock Eaton carrier, running mid ten's with a about 125 shot of the funny stuff.

I also know a few people running Moser axles and am wondering where you did your research to come to the conclusion that they aren't a good axle?
