Thanks Darren, hi Bruce how you been we could use some of that warm air over here it really sucks around here.
I woildnt worry about them blowing up I have seen people driving around with much worse. They hold air just fine. They would be perfect for judging a survivor car. The camera really magnifies the cracking. Strange they only cracked on the inside perfect on the outside with about 80% of thread left

I suspect that tire is from 1978. I have some tires with a code MDLD that I was told were dated `73, so the MULD may just be a later version, and the last digit being an 8.
The `70 tires were coded L8DS.
I'm sure someone else will have more exact info.

I was told anything with ten digits in the dot is pre 1970 after 1970 there were 11 digits?

They'd be fine for display and judging but you're putting your life and your car in danger if you drive on them for any long distances. The general rule is don't drive on tires older than 7 years. - I know that from experience after having a 10 year old tire blow out - and it had 99% of it's tread depth left. After a certain amount of time the rubber dries out and becomes unstable.

BTW, those cracks are most likely due to ozone damage from being stored. If you have to store tires, never store them near any electrical equipment like heating/air conditioning systems that have running motors. The trace amounts of ozone that is created by the electrical fields destroys rubber products.

Hi John,

FWIW, I have some Tiger Paws that were manufactured in August 67 (per Uniroyal/Michelin) and there are only 6 digits in the DOT code (or whatever it was called back then).
