Me a my buddies used to race on an HO track like this when we were kids. Every Saturday morning at Miller's Feed & Hobby shop on Grand River in Detroit. Still have my cars and pit box. Theres a huge underground world here in Mpls St Paul with them. I went to a few of their meets and shows. I guess its even 10 times larger around Chicago and they meet up in hotels and block off 10-20 rooms and go from room to room to room selling them. Thats their version of a good swap meet.

The track was close, so I bought a car, a body, an extra motor, etc. &amp; then the track closed.

I haven't used it in about 10 yrs. It went 9.90 @ scale.
My controler was a heavy duty starter button.

[b]When I was a kid I had the AMT version.
AMT came out with The Authentic Model Turnpike in '62. It used 1/25th scale models instead of the little HO racers. Back then the frame on the models would screw mount to posts on the bodies. Because of this you could interchange any models body you wanted to the race car chassis.
These racers had a carriage that protruded out of the track and the model had a swing arm that would snap on. You actually had to steer your car through the corners or crossovers or you would spin out.
If the car spun out you would have to maneuver it forward and reverse to get it going again.
This was hands down over the HO stuff, but was much harder to operate and cost much more and never really caught on.

You can see the swing arm hanging from the model. The carriage below it was under the track always keeping the car on the track.
