I'm no expert on stampings but that sure looks like a BL rear that was restamped to BE. The date does not really fit into any kind of COPO car range either.

Not really sure could be I just pulled it out of my car, has two e's what is the second never seen it before lower and sideways the top of the E next to B is faint on top over the roll of the tube, so is the 0's and the 2, the lower sideways E is more along the tube and crisp, and my car is no copo, the date on casting is I-18-8, what ever it is it's going back where it came from when I change the gears out and clean it up https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

The lower E means it had an Eaton posi unit in it. Note that that E looks similar to the E in BE. Hard to tell from the angle, but I'd check it out anyway. Casting date seems early for COPO, though.

I ran a pencil over the E for eaton today and the E in the BE they are identicle type set, but the E is deeper stamp on the eaton, most of the numbers on the tube seem to fade at top, Im guessing the roll of the tube?? I did pull it apart today to clean next week and set the gears up in it. I have not found anything on the internet that "BE" was to specific to "COPO" but just 4:10 gear ratio and possibly a service part??? I do not know I'm no expert on this. The car does have a multitude of what seems to be "counter parts" I just figured this was the same as well...

the edge of the ring gear should have a GM part number on it if it's an original GM part, that number will tell the story. the posi carrier might have a three letter / numeral code stamped on edge of the ring gear flange or the counter weight pad on the top of the carrier.... that info will be helpfull in establishing more clues about the origins of the rear. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Need Pic F body 12 bolt BE

Those BE stamps do look similar so probably not a restamped BL. The 1001 date code is incredibly early for a COPO car. The casting date lines up with the stamping date but the first COPO's were late Dec so if that rear is legit, it would be from a very early COPO most likely if not from a prototype. Has anyone seen a BE rear dated earlier than Dec? Could be an interesting find.
