Those look like classic peening marks intended to tighten up the fit of the main caps to the block. Seen that many times.

-----Grady,,,A customer of mine bought a car from him that was vastly misrepresented,,,mainly. That and years of experiences with him. I do have to say that some of Davids repro stuff is absolutely great, big-block valve covers and 63 Corvette consoles come to mind......Bill S
