Lest you critics forget,I have been a paid member for many years!! I,as well as several others, dont like the attitude of SOME of the people who post here{ members and non-members}. If only I had a dollar for everytime I was at a show and heard how the attitudes of some on this site have rubbed many the wrong way. So,I have an opinion that's different than some here and comments get posted that I should be banned or can I really protest anything because I have not paid $25.00??? This just solidifies my feelings about how the hobby has become to many. I still have yet to hear how anyone was hurt by the old system??? Geez guys,I would not buy anything from a guy w/3 posts, but would not hesitate to do so from the frequent flyers of the site who have established good reputations. If someone does not have the common sense to do make educated purchases then why must the site make up for their bad decisions? I've purchased/bought many things from members of this site with zero problems.

Rob...it's a policy established by the administrators here. I'm sure you're familiar with policy in your job. Grinding on it won't change policy.

peace-out...

Rob,

Your past membership is duly noted.

My guess is that the rules were not changed just because the site administrators felt the need to stir the pot. The new rules are not unreasonable. As Steve says, if you have issues with the new rules, this is not the 'right' way to address them.

More and more people were showing up just to post ads. They never joined in on any discussions etc. Enough people clamored for something to be done and the admins did the two ad limit to address the problem. It was not about making money.

It's a tough call, but completely to the judgment of those that run the site.

I understand if it's just those that are only here to sell cars/parts. But that's not always easy to regulate. Can't really govern it by longevity, maybe by post count? But even that isn't completely logical, as people can run hundreds of posts only in for-sale ads only, as well as there can be people that have been here, without posting much, that aren't using the site strictly for sale ads.

Tough call. On TC, the classified sections are a bit out of hand, but it is a seperate section from the board, so the situation here is different.

The "team" sites, as well as other voluntary membership sites that Ive been part of, you never see posts pressuring/mentioning/telling (whatever you want to call it) others to become paying members.

If they want to, great. If they don't, that's fine too. That being said, I fully respect the rules here as far as being a paying member to post in the classifieds here.

my two pennies.

I am protesting the new rule! Just what does it hope to achieve anyways? Who got hurt by the way things were done before? Yeah, I know I can pay the 25.00 and become a member again, like I have done many years before, but shouldn't we be trying to attract new members? I wasn't aware of a problem w/ the adds and if anyone thinks the new rules will prevent people from being scammed they should wake up.

I'm not sure if this is irony or hypocracy but why do you expect to post here for free and profit by the sale when the Clary's must pay out of their own pocket to keep this website up and running?

Nobody is saying you can't post ads here. We thought (as a group), a limit of 2 free ads was more than fair because it allows non paid members who are in the hobby to still post. As soon as you sell something, delete the ad and feel free to post the next thing.

As for the Team sites (to which I am also a paid member), they do offer free ad posting but it is to a different type of enthusiast. In my experience, guys here tend to not beat you up when making a deal. Deals are straight forward with a very large level of trust built into the deal because we generally care about our reputation in the hobby (small world). That is not always the case on Team Camaro. Isn't the lack of headaches worth the $25 bucks?

The syc must give some advantage/perk to supporting members. Just about the only advantage/perk a forum board can give a supporting member is "privilege". The syc knows what it's worth and using the "for-sale" section of the forum board ought to be a privilege. BTW, I'm aware of at least one musclecar forum site that totally disallows for-sale ads of any kind, for any reason. There's a reason the for-sale section is at the bottom of the page. This site is not about attracting the chronic and professional car/parts sellers.

There was earlier mention about limited traffic on this forum site. Members here have many choices when choosing a venue to advertise their car/parts for-sale. This site has over 5,000 members and at least that many lurkers. I'm a "team" forum member too and I mean no disrespect, but if you have a rare car/part...this forum is one of the best web sites to make the sale.

Obviously, everyone knows this site is owned by the Clarys, but most aren't aware that this site is administered by a committee of 10 people. I know for a fact that this new for-sale policy was vetted for several weeks before being made policy. This site was born early in 2000 as a place for us gearheads to hang, discuss, commemorate and organize the spotlight for these old Chevy cars. The for-sale section came later in the game as a venue for loyal and supporting members. Folks that advertise here know that the conversion rate in our for-sale section is phenomenal and they also know it's both a sensible and cheap way to flip their wares. Tom has come out of pocket 6 out of the 9 years that he's operated this forum site, so it ain't about the money.

Thanks sYc !
