It is Nixon,taken in 1955.
<span style="font-style: italic">"Vice President Richard Nixon,a one time service station attendant, went back in the business briefly today to help the March of Dimes campaign in its drive against Polio. Here,he "services" the car of five year old Carol Vitiello,a polio victim."</span> |
Re: Gas Stations
Here's a few shots of a local brand I am into called Red Head. They had 400+ stations in Western Canada from the 1920's through 1958 and I have recreated this stations Red Head island theme in one of my garages. Very rare collectibles in these parts.
Red Head Station - Edmonton Alberta Circa 1955 http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ection/RH2.jpg The service island from the same Wood Park Station above. http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ection/RH3.jpg Island image printed to canvas and hung on a 12' wall in my garage. http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...L/IMG_3561.jpg The island built with lights and pumps added in front of the image backdrop. http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/...ad%20Pumps.jpg The pumps and can/bottle racks shown above are original survivors and all are "extremely" hard items to find. Some items shown are the only survivors known to exist in this coveted regional brand. When I build my new shop in the coming year, there will be an actual station built with an outdoor island and canopy done up in Red Head. I love this stuff...great thread you guys started here. |
Re: Gas Stations
Very nice Earl.I've only heard of Red Head brand, but never seen one before.
That center vertical island light in your first 2 photos looks to be a REVERE brand lighter..Very hard to come by,and almost cracked. Those pieces you've acquired are epic. Please share your progress with us as you go along. |
Re: Gas Stations
Very cool, I've never heard of Red Head brand. I'd love to see some Gilmore stuff.

BIG </div></div> ME TOO!! I worked at a Marathon Station all through high school. The owner of the business was really cool. He would let us work on our cars in the evenings in the bays and use the lifts provided all of our work was caught up.. I really miss those days.. Lots of fun!! Seems like it was more simple and just easier times than today... Rich |
