Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2
I had everything adjusted in according to the book with a 4 Deg up at the pinion using the adjustable uppers.....but....at that point the drive train was......Engine 5 Deg down.......Driveshaft was 3 deg up and the Pinion 4Deg up........That gave a 8 Degree angle at the Universal...........3 Degrees Max is where we needed to be.......so by lowering the pinion to -1 it brought those numbers closer to spec..........and if I would have left it alone it probably would have been fine.......But......I couldn't leave it alone.........LOL.....

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2
Just a little refresher on what is going on.........My drivetrain angle wasn't the best in the Chevelle.......I had to raise up the front of the engine to clear the Tie Rod Ends.......It ended up that I had a 5 Degree down engine angle and a 3 Degree up driveshaft angle to the rear end (due to the car being lowered).........this gave a 8 Degree working angle at the Transmission U-Joint..........The ideal angle is 3 degrees.......so......Even though the car rode and drove well, It just wasn't right.....So.....I took the easy way out and talked to Frank at the Driveshaft shop and he built me a CV Joint 3 1/2" Aluminum shaft to eliminate these concerns.......It showed up today and I put it in already..........Now I'm Bored again....That took all of ten minutes.........The Dash Pad is supposed to be finished at Just Dashes some time in February.......Gonna have to drop the Dash down to get it in........But, at least I won't have to look at that piece of Crap repro Pad the original owner put in with it's flipped up ends.........Sheesh.......If you are going to Repro something.....at least go thru the effort to make sure it fits.......How many years have we been talking about this Crap............

Awesome deal -- looks good ...

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2
As I stated earlier.......The Dash pad that was in the Restored car I bought was a piece of Crap repro dash pad..........I finally was able to locate a OEM pad last fall and sent it to Just Dashes for restoration.....Got it back this week and all I can say is.......Just Dashes is the Best (Thanks Charley)....when I get some time shortly.....I will be putting the new pad in......Now when I drive it I won't have to look at the Bird wings flipped up at the ends of the dash........

Ken, when you get the repro out could you post a side by side picture so we can see the difference?
Thanks, Steve |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2
The New pad is in and installed..........Here are a couple of pic's of the Molded Repro Pad......they are pretty rigid as it is molded and the final shape is such than when installed the ends won't stay in place and get squeezed out of position........I'll take some pics later of the new pad installed.......

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2
Before .......With that "Awsum" Repro Dash Pad
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...AED29CE139.jpg After..........OEM Just Dashes Restored pad http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...37F7E15B1D.jpg As you can see the painted Dash is not exactly the right color.......And I was reprimanded by the person that restored this car for ruining a perfectly restored car...........I guess it all depends what the meaning of "Perfect" is......LOL.........I may get around to repainting it the correct color someday...........And then again......LOL.....Too much fun driving it....... |
Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2
Ken, dash colors didn't always match between the dash pad and the painted piece..just saying

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2
It was 60 degrees here yesterday and I wanted to take the car out for a ride......After not driving the car for 4 months......Gonna have to learn to drive it all over again......This thing makes so much power and response to gas pedal movement is immediate.........Amazing!!.....These LSA engines are beyond belief......7500 miles last year without a hiccup.......Averaged 20 MPG and again....it never gets Hot and Idles like a Grandma's car.........We are doing the Power Tour again this year and also signed up for the Good-Guys Road Tour.......Busy Summer coming up............

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2
I am jealous, you had a 60* day ! The dash color is fine, agree will Albert, they did not always match 100%.

Ken; Did this resolve your driveline issues? I had my Chevelle out yesterday. While the re-adjusted pinion angle did help the ~50 mph vibration issue the car had, the vibration is definitely still there at....eh...shall we say...."higher speeds". I need to get this taken care of once & for all. BTW, is there a limit to the power these shafts are rated for? |

Re: Next Years Power Tour Car Part 2
Nice Sunny cool sunny day today and I got the Bug to get the Beater out and go to the Drag Strip...... Paid....went thru Tech....and pulled up to the line (Lot's of Prep)......LOL........When I got the Helmet out of the trunk I realized I still had all the normal travelling "Stuff" in the trunk.......Tool box, chairs, hydraulic Jack etc........LOL.......Made two passes......1st one just blew the tires off the car and had it sideways about a third of the way down the track..........2nd pass I drove it out and gradually got in it........2.3 60 ' time and went 12.21 @118..........Not bad for a Highway car........Easy 11's with Drag Radials.......But.......once is enough.........LOL

BTW. you might want to blur out your bio info on that ticket before all the rest of us apply for credit cards in your name...just sayin'
P.S. the last time I got one of those tickets was for having six girls in my 1969 Z11 convertible back in high school in 1979. The officer said I didn't have enough seatbelts to restrain them properly. He was not amused when I told him that was why I had my hand across the torso of the one in the passenger seat. (The Costanza "move"). |
