A question came up on this car in the eBay section: are the engine callout emblems in the proper position? The answer is . . . not really. It's too high. Look at the next post which has a properly positioned emblem. That's where Chevy put them on the fuill size cars in 1965. Below is a PR photo:

It was a one year only position. In 1966 Chevy moved the emblem to a more symertrical position:

When Larry Shinoda came over to Ford, they were already working on a Trans Am Mustang to take on Chevy's Z/28. What he saw was a car with cladding along the rocker panel area and rear panel. He argued with the stylists that less is more. He would get rid of the cladding and use just black paint on the rear panel (and on the deck lid) saving Ford tons of money in parts and assembly time. The bean counters loved the ideas but were forced into a small tradeoff when he changed the rear quarter panels to remove the fake scoops, something that Larry did not like. As it turned out, the rear quarter panels sans scoops were less expensive and were made standard on the 1970 models.

Larry's styling cues carried over to the 1970 model along with a change in the stripe pattern.

But the stylists finally did get their way . . .

So are you saying the White car's emblems are in the wrong location? They look more correct as built by the factory in the model year 1965 than the Red car in my opinion.

IMO, the emblem on the Red car is not in the exact proper position as it is on the White car. I was assuming that people confused the 65 position with the 66 position. I have edited my original post to reflect this.
