Pics of adjusters. Did you find any traces of paint on yours? I'll look for more...

Wow that paint is:
Adjectives That Start With P There are lots of different adjectives that start with the letter P. In fact, some might say that P is a powerful letter used to make plenty of adjectives so it is prudent to know your Ps. It might be a pretty fun game in fact to try to name all of the adjectives that start with the letter P. For now, though, here is a list or 20 pleasant and positive adjectives that start with P.

I have not checked in on this thread for well over a year, and just read it all. I am speechless.

Bwahaha! Classic Darrell!! You too Ryan!
Thanks for the compliments guys, I really do appreciate it! I'm waiting on my new DA to arrive to start wetsanding, but meanwhile, the front suspension is done! Jim, yes. Torsion bar adjuster arms have an orange blop on the left and a blue one on the right. It's the first time I've seen the different colors. Other cars had the same colors. K-Frame is stripped and as I've found on numerous ones, under the steering box was a giant yellow paint swipe. On the idler arm mount is a green swipe. I sometimes find the green on the engine mount bracket that's welded to the frame but nothing on this one. For the lower control arms, I replicated the dip in a cosmoline bucket by tapping off the dip line then spraying a heavy dose of Krylon battery protector which gave me the drips and runs I was looking for. Uppers are natural with a slight coat of the stuff. It's all ready to go back together as soon as I get the k-frame painted later today and then off the rotisserie it comes for the last time! Woohoo!:headbang: Cheers:beers: Dave |
Looks good!!!
There should have been a paint splotch on the center link as well. I use a similar product to replicate the Cosmoline. It actually looks more like original Cosmoline than Cosmoline! Are you going to zinc phos anything....or use RPM to tone down the bare metal stuff? |
And are you using the proper front end nuts (no jokes please!). Nothing says non-Mopar like those multi-slotted ones that come with new front end parts.
|
My nuts are Tri-Castle all the way! Wait, what?
Now that you mention it, was that blop on the center link on one end where the steering box connects? I thought I saw remnants of one, red like the end link adjusters nuts are, on one end or the other but just thought it was something else. Where that blop be located, oh Mopar Master of Megatronic Magistry!? Cheers Dave |
Wow...……….love that colour. My favourite 70 High Impact colour.Bob

I found these nuts in my drawers.
I guess the tri-castle nuts of which you speak are the top row items in this photo? |
Correct-O, Steve-O! Those go on the inner and outer tie rods as well as the pitman and idler arms. Or maybe the pitman arm gets the standard castle one? Jim...HELP!
Ball joints get the other style, and it’s good you have those since you’ll have to replace a few “non-correct” ones since some were missing when I got it and James had the front held together with lug nuts! DA sander in about an hour ago, so it might be wet sanding time. It’s 105 here right now....maybe it’s just time for a beer instead:dunno: Cheers:beers::beers: Dave |

Good on the Tri-Castle! Actually there is usually a big paint splotch on the center of the center link. I'll see if I have pics of it - and the color.... Also - did your Shaker have the "legs" that rest on the valve covers? |

TRI Front suspension - Tri-Castle nut set with correct cotter pins. All 66-72 … Set $42.00 |
Don’t the 340 shakers have two brackets that bolt to the front of the cylinder head instead of feet that sit on the valve covers?

Jim,
Found a powder blue splotch on the pitman arm, and another marking on the K-Frame by the steering box mount extending to the engine mount on that side. Green. That makes two marks on the k-frame I've found. This front end (balljoints) was never taken apart. I think the uppers and lower ball joints have the standard castle nuts but the pitman arm, inner and outer tie rod adjusters have the tricastle nuts. Of course, you can modify the standard castle nuts to tri castle style if need be! Cheers Dave |

Well, into all life some rain must fall. Every silver lining has a touch of gray. For every D cup there's an A cup. :dunno:
In other words, paint part deux is on the way! Yes, while it is probably the flattest paint I've ever shot with no runs, sags, drips or mottling on the color, there's 5.7 bugs per square inch and it's simply not acceptable to me. I rushed into the paint and sprayed at night since during the day it's been 100+ here. That was the first mistake. The second mistake was living in central Texas where all the bugs are not only bigger, but minuscule as well. This coupled with a combined total of 64,000 LED lumens equaled a bug fest bug fest not seen since the last Democratic National Convention! So with that, out came the DA with 320 then 400 and everything got sanded flat again. Eeeeevvvryyyy bug is out and it'll be a masking fest not seen since the Elizabethian era!:cool2: A quick shot of base to even things out and then clear should be all it needs. This time I'm painting in the early morning which I should have done the first time. The temp will be down and no bugs. Luckily I had to do this exact same thing on this 1970 Charger that I painted about 10 years ago. Way happier the second time! Steve was very understanding and even offered to pay for the additional materials. But, no deal. This is my screw up and as such, my responsibility to fix it at my cost, not his. I mean, ALL shops do that, right? :confused2::grin: So Dos Paintos Purpolous over the weekend. Then reassembly begins! See? I'm so stupid I even post my mistakes! :D:p:rolleyes: Cheers Dave |
Wow!
Out of curiosity, how many cars have you painted? Once only of course?:cool2: |
Wait a minute...how do we know you're not just painting a second-duplicate-clone-replica-sister car. You're gonna keep the real one and send me the doppelganger, aint ya???
|
Duplicate? Doppelgänger??:hmmm: I think, yes, maybe, what?:dunno: Are you kidding? My vocabulary isn’t enlightened enough to unnastands what you’s means, Steve-O! So to answer that question......Sentripity.
Ha! Painted once...now that’s classic!:haha: That Charger redo was due to a contaminated rag which made the clear fisheye to the point of sanding down to the base coat. So similar to this Cuda redo, but a little more involved. At $1,000/gal for the custom mixed base coat, it wasn’t a very cheap mistake. This buggy Cuda event is an easy, but still time consuming, fix luckily. That Charger took a good week to redo. But as you can see the results were pretty good! And that stripe is painted over the base and then cleared over. No vinyl decal there! I think total I’ve painted 15 cars (13 only once!) and each one is a learning experience. Taught myself everything and have improved on each one. Some were over the top, some were just quick driver quality, but each one taught me something to do better next time or something to NOT do next time too. On call the next three days. Hope to have some color again this weekend!:headbang: More to come... Cheers Dave |
You're a good and honest man Dave.

That's very nice of you to say, Mark. Thank you! It's the only way to be in my book.
All the small pieces are ready to go back together! Each one blasted and officially, there's no more white house paint anywhere! And no, the tri-castle nuts aren't in the pic:smile: Although Steve's goal on this is Day 2, so I'd assume maybe some neon green suspension paint, a red rear axle, and yellow wheel wells! Cheers:beers: Dave PS: 101 today.....:rolleyes2: |
And don't forget the white headers and yellow traction bars!
|
I never did understand the logic behind white headers.....how many sets do you suppose ever finished installation with no greasy hand prints all over them?
|
Looks really nice Dave!!

Alllllllrighty. Paint Part Deux was a complete success. But, to continue on with the new moniker of the Cursed Cuda, about halfway through the third coat of clear my compressor overheated leaving me without any air. At 100 again today, it was just bound to happen. But like all car guys who have spare carburetors, distributors, and engines laying around, so to was a second compressor! That allowed me to finish the clear but not without some peel due to it being a smaller tank. Not anything major, just not as flat as I'd have liked it to be. Nothing the cut and buff won't fix! :scholar:
Very happy this time around and now she'll harden up as we're off to SCR23 Wednesday! :eek2: When I get back out comes the wetsanding disks, buffing compound, and then it'll be time do some reassembly and packing for the next phase: Restorations by SuperSteve!:hmmm: Cheers:beers: Dave |
Looks phenomenal!
|
|
Oh, now come on, Lee. Let's be serious. That one in the center is way too small, looks lazy, and doubt he could hold the buffer steady!:hmmm::tongue:
Thanks Tony! Cheers Dave |
Wow...looks great. :eek2:
|
Gorgeous, nice job Dave
|
Thanks guys! Just walked around the car again and extremely happy with it! Excited to get all those detailed parts on installed!
Cheers:beers: Dave |
Damn man.

Looks great Super Dave.

Dave - Did the car have any evidence of blackout along the rocker panel pinch weld? Common on E-Bodies. I even have it on my Daytona.
|
None, Jim. I did have cowl blackout though, but no rocker pinch weld blackout. With the Sherman Williams semi-gloss eggshell paint that was on it, it was more like a White Out!:bs:

I started to pick areas to wetsand today and after I got through, went back over to pick out any areas I may have missed. It's easy to pick out unpolished areas since they stick out like someone picking their nose in traffic in the car next to you since they apparently don't understand glass is see through in both directions!:hmmm:
Cheers:beers: Dave |
